It was just consistent with how his character had changed. Remember when he couldn't shut up about how smart the drug kingpin was when Hank was describing the drug case in the earlier season. His pride just wouldn't let him let things go.

Yeah, Walt didn't view it as about the money once he got enough. He viewed it like he was an artist, which in a way he was.

I'm one year away from being technically a biochemist, and I can completely understand why he loves the idea of the perfect cook.

He didn't take the buyout because he had created an empire. He wanted that. He needed it. Personal redemption even if it was being a drug kingpin.

He sold out once with Grey Matter and it blew up in his face, so he had to live with the fact that his college girlfriend and former buddy who is now married to said college girlfriend being filthy rich over something he created.

The show wouldn't have been nearly as good if he would have folded, it had to go the way it did and you should all be ashamed for questioning Vince Gilligan.

End rant.

Walt is a prideful man and when his friends at Grey Matter screwed him over he took a huge blow in pride. He helped build that billion dollar industry. While his friends where super wealthy, he was making less than 50,000 teaching with poor health insurance, plus working part time at a car wash. He could have had every medical expense paid for by Gretchen and her husband (I forgot her name) but his pride got the best of him.

But it's not perfect. I think I've already explained myself. I don't think making Walt more likable makes the show less likable.

One thing that occurred to me. Walt is the worst liar ever. His lies are so elaborate and detailed and he gets into a rhythm whenever he tells his lies to his family...it's so completely obvious when he's lying. So my question is: I am wondering if this is on purpose? If Walt had been lying his whole life, he'd be much better at it. Is Walt new to lying, and they meant for him to be a bad liar, or is it just bad acting/writing?

Not a big deal either way. Obviously the writing in this show is really good.

That's a tough one. I didn't watch a lot of TV when I was younger. But in no particular order here are some shows I liked much better.

Sopranos
Falling Skies
Big Bang Theory

About all I can name off the top of my head. I guess it's a generational thing, my son loved BB.

I expected The Shield or Rescue Me or The Andy Griffith Show, something. Big Bang Theory? Friends?

Might as well throw Moesha and Grey's Anatomy in there as well.
