The meltdown that is happening on the Vandy message boards

Do Not Get the Excitement of Rick Barnes...
8:36 AM
Mark my words will go down as an extremely underwhelming tenure in Knoxville. Last 3 years coming off of back to back top 10 classes in 11' & '12 managed 2 first rd losses and an NIT with that group as the core. Last 3 years recruiting has fallen off with expecting of Myles Turner.

Coach is clearly on the downside of his career and has never been a guy regarded as a guy who will "out coach" you but rather as a guy who will "out recruit" you. That job is going to be infinitely harder at TN than it was at Tex. Could they have done worse? Sure. Could they have done better? Absolutely. Having watched him closely I was terrified they were going to hire Prohm, he's going to be a superstar.

Nah he didn't seem like a bad guy. Guess he just didn't pay attention to the room. I prefer to tell in person though

I will say is nice to have someone lower than me on the cfb totem pole. Only other one is my boss who's a gamecocks fan

Careful, he's a vandy fan.....can't be trusted.

Priceless. What makes this super hilarious is that a few vandymania members have been reading this thread. We could really make this "so called" rivalry interesting if that ass-hat yates would allow dissenting opinions on his "Chet & Buffy" forum.

Amen. Guy is a complete clown.

little more chatter about something going on with some VU players on their 247 board but i cant read it. PPL seem pretty worried though.

Vandymania doesn't dissappont. Re: Hiring Rick Barnes

Tyndall just beat Stallings 2 out of 3 times with a scrapped together roster.

I'd be worried if I were them. Not to mention it's hilarious to hear them talk about a basketball coach underachieving; they should be well versed in that.

Nothing concrete yet. Just that whoever the player is may have grade issues and could be academically ineligible.

I will almost feel bad for Vandy if it is indeed McRary, especially after Robinette just quit football. Their QB situation will be the most abysmal in FBS.

Guess we'll get to see what Stankavage can do.

I won't. I used to feel bad for Vandy, but after these past few years, I hope they continue to reside at the bottom of the SEC and I look forward to crushing them year in, year out.

I do respect Robinette's decision, however.

I'm right there with you. That's why I said almost.

I know that the fine folks on VM would be guffawing if we ended up in the same situation.

Quit it. Half their basketball board thinks Barnes was a bad hire and act is if Stallings is better.

Man, they may never beat Vanderbilt during his tenure if UT hires him, and that would be a good thing, needless to say.

These are the same people who would repeatedly say "41-18" and "two times in a row" while ignoring their history of going 1-28 in their last 29 against us and 9-70-2 in their last 81 against us.

I once felt sorry for them but now, I hope they never win another game. Now that their two season run is over, I hope life repeatedly kicks their teeth in. Rubs salt in that wound. Throws sand in their eyes. Bangs their girlfriend. Just kidding, those Urkel's couldn't get a girlfriend. So the next best thing, bang their sister. Drinks their beer. Poops on their lawn. Keys their car. All figuratively of course but you get the idea. I'd say I hope that their football program reverts back to only beating a couple of FCS teams a season but I don't have to hope because it's the reality of the situation.

Those losers are so pathetic that they dropped both Northwestern and Wake Forest because they're too tough on top of the SEC. Seriously? They couldn't even keep one of those games? We play Oregon, Notre Dame, UCLA, Cal, Miami, Oklahoma, Ohio State, N. Carolina, NC St. etc. out of conference every single year and they complain about NW and WF? What a bunch of b**** boys. They have a rather large ego for beating two of Tennessee's worst teams of all-time during Tennessee's worst stretch of all-time while they also chose to run away from two of their other rivals(both of which are weak programs). Where they got this big head from is beyond me but they're trash and deserve to remain trash. I'll be elated if they lose another QB. I'd really only feel bad for the QB as a student being forced to leave school. Other than that...

And speaking of the dude who made the Barnes comment that I posted above...

ESPN right now, yet I'm watching some high school all-star game. eek1

Am I missing something? Is the NIT final on somewhere else?

Anyone know?

I know I've mistakenly forgotten which night games are on but for being a "brilliant" Vandy mind, it's amazing he had to go on a forum and ask a group of people to correct him. Guy isn't even smart enough to check ESPN about what time, day and station the game is on. Brilliant, pure genius. This is one of the guys that thinks Stallings will beat Barnes regularly. You can't make this stuff up.

Butch hasn't exactly lit the world on fire with his "Xs and Os" to this point. As a matter of fact, I'd confidently say he's solidly below average. However, to say he's no better than inarguably the worst collegiate head coach I've personally ever witnessed in 40 yrs of following football is certifiably insane....of course we are talking about the blithering idiots on vandy mania so it actually follows....

"Confidently say he's solidly below average".

How do you measure these things?

Define "average."

Are you using all division 1 coaches (120+)? What timeline are you using? Are you looking just at his time at UT or his whole career?is there a mathematical, quantifiable standard you're using or is it subjective?

Define "solidly below."

Are you suggesting that Butch is in the bottom third of active coaches (one of the 40 worst tacticians)?

Once you do that, define "confidently."

... And boom goes the dynamite

Lets be honest, regardless of the news/non-news, Vanderbilt football is back in the truest sense and that shouldn't excite anyone. It was fun for a brief stretch. We all got to experience a couple bowl wins so I can die happy. But it's back to the same ole same ole. Last place predictions. Weak roster. Mason isn't likely to turn it around. Could he have looked less up to the task last season? How anyone can expect a turnaround in year two is beyond me.
