This message board kills me. So, now Tennessee's basketball program is too good for a coach like Rick Barnes. Laughable.

I highly doubt he's making $1 mil at Dayton

With incentives, I'm betting he brings in over a mil easy. Again, it's just speculation on both of our parts. Keep in mind, Archie watched his brother Sean sit tight, pass on a few bad job, and wind up with the premium Arizona job. You would expect Archie to also show similar patience.

It's not his coaching ability for me. A little concerned about his age. He's 60, so maybe he's only wanting to coach a few more years, and then we are starting over again.

Brian Gregory was making $1 million at Dayton, I would only assume that 4-5 years later they are paying their current coach who has actually accomplished something more than that.

If he could come in for 4 or 5 years, stabilize the program, and get them back in the tournament, UT would be in much better position to sign a premium head coach the next time around. That would be his upside, as a guy that can come in and make UT more attractive for one of the big name mid major coaches next time around.

That's kind of selective usage of information, considering Barnes has more sweet 16s, elite 8s and final 4s in his career than UT has in the history of their program. That being said, I don't think there's any need to disparage Barnes because frankly he's out of our league. He's not coming here.

Selective? We aren't hiring him 15 years ago, we are hiring him today. He's done absolutely nothing in ten years, ten years.

Barnes already going to Tennessee? "Will I coach again? Yeah, quicker than you probably think. But I will."

Except make the tournament nine of those ten years. Nine years. But again, he's not coming here. That's how absurd this has become- our fan base is now talking trash about a coach that would not come here.

That would be great if it played out that way. A rejuvenated Barnes might be the best thing for UT

4 or 5 years of coaching stability (no NCAA violations, no petitions, no bad press) and improvement (in this case probably NIT, NIT, NCAA, NCAA, NCAA) and coaches like Miller, Pitino, Mack, etc would be calling UT about the coaching position.

our fans dont want anybody. Still embarrassing themselves calling to bring back Bruce. Its a toxic fan base no doubt.

Wow, he made the tournament. Amazing. That's not exactly a major accomplishment at a big time school with the resources of Texas, plus he's done that meager accomplishment with future NBA All-stars on his team.

But, fine, let him come here and, in five years, you all will say "Really, this is what we thought was a great coach?"

I'm not saying he's a great coach- I'm saying Tennessee would be lucky to have him. Our last hire set the world on fire by making the NIT two straight years in a MUCH easier league. So for us now to act like Tyndall has somehow elevated our program to the point that Barnes is beneath us is embarrassing.

And frankly, if our next coach is even still HERE in five years, I'll say "thank you sweet Jesus!", because that would be a massive improvement to the complete @#$# show we've been dealing with in the preceding five years.
