would'nt it be nice to see gus in knoxville. that is a high scoring off he's got at tulsa. o well
BGSU totally blows, but I'm impressed with Tulsa's Qb, his recievers have dropped a bunch, but the play calling is solid.:clapping:

Oh, I'm being facetious. But you have some that believe that these guys don't belong.

Coaching at Tulsa is like coaching the 13th grade. :p

I think you're right on....some people will dismiss them just for that reason. However, coaching an 18 year old in high school can't be "that" much different from coaching an 18 year old in college. Sure recruiting is different but the actual coaching of the game is very similar.

high school coaches don't belong on the same field as these other guys.

You know, normally I would agree. A guy like Malzahne or Quarles, however... the rare guys who wipe out their competition with x's and o's and a keen ability to motivate and develop talent. For instance, this Paul Smith guy, how many stars was he? I'm watching the Tulsa game and wondering how in the world Chavis would stop em'.:whistling:

Not to point out the obvious, but if our players were successful in high school and also in college, why couldn't a coach be successful in high school and also in college.

Malzahn's work at Tulsa and Arky in two years hasn't exactly been a predictable disappointment. Plus, UT hasn't been that great at handholding some of our immature talent (whether they were 18 years old or 20 years old).

I've been on a lot of high school sidelines and a few JUCO sidelines. The difference in terminology and strategy just from high school to JUCO is unreal. I can't imagine how much more involved it is at the SEC level.

Talent is talent. Something tells me that Phil would have the same number of "3 and outs" if he coached in high school right now.

Malzahn knows what he's doing. This is the first really extended look I've had at his offense when run by a competent quarterback. Bringing someone like this to UT would be a risk, though. It would totally change the identity of the program and I don't know if Fulmer has the stones for that.

I wouldn't object to Malzahn, based on what I'm seeing. This isn't that gimmicky crap they're running at Florida or Hawaii's chuck-and-duck, it actually has balance and the ability to run out of a variety of sets.

the thought that CPF couldn't compete vs HS coaches may be the craziest statement I've ever read on VN

I think that's because it needs to appear "complicated" to justify full employment of coordinators/assistants as well as with high salaries they command.

I was thinking the same thing about the statement that high school coaches with consecutive state championships couldn't compete with college coaches.
