Do you think Hurd is faster than Ethan Wolf? Or Todd Kelly is faster than Derek Barnett?

I think it's fair to speculate yes to both, without knowing electronic 40 times. You can watch two people and gauge which is faster, unless they're very similar in speed. I think it is clear JG is faster and gets to top speed quicker than Dobbs. I guess you call it speculation, I call it measuring with the eyes.

No offense, but that's about as bad an analogy as I think I've seen. Hurd and Wolf? One guy is a very fast running back, the other is a lumbering TE. Kelly and Barnett? Dude, come on.....do I think a 190 lb safety is faster than a 270 lb DE? It's obvious. While you're at it, why don't you ask if Pig Howard is faster than Mack Crowder???......jeez, I just can't tell.

On the other hand, 2 very athletic players approximately the same size, playing the same position, running around and by defensive players.....that's an entirely different comparison.

Finally, I can easily SPECULATE, which you admit is all you're doing, and is all that I've said that you're doing..... that Dobbs is faster than JG simply based on the fact that he looks very fast vs SEC D1 collegiate players, while JG is running by highschool players from the northeast. You can guess by eyeballing film if you want, but the variables aren't remotely the same. If anything, it's advantage Dobbs without knowing definitive times. In the end, JG may run 4.4 and Dobbs 4.6.....but just looking at film, vs significantly different competition, is only speculation and nothing more.

Watch the 3rd or 4th highlight of JG's HUDL. It's a QB draw that he takes to the house. He's faster than Dobbs.

What does competition have to do with straight line speed? Whether it's a high school defense or SEC, their presence doesn't speed someone up or slow them down. I would bet the house that JG beats Dobbs by 10+ yards in a 100 yard race.

The ridiculousness of my analogy was the point. Speculation isn't needed when it's obvious that someone is faster. It's obvious JG is faster than Dobbs. Saying otherwise is as ridiculous as saying Barnett is faster than Kelly... their stature and weight is irrelevant. Dobbs weighs 20-25lb more than JG, yet you have no problem saying he's faster? But Wolf weighing 25lb more than Hurd, all of a sudden that's absurd to compare. Because one is a RB and the other is a TE? It's all relative. A faster guy is a faster guy.

Seeing them run is all you need to see. You don't need any 40 time to confirm. Who they're running by is irrelevant. What position they are is irrelevant. You can just see it, unless they're very very close in speed. And to me, based on what I've seen of them both in the open field, it isn't.

Similar play from Dobbs (o/w game). 1:10 mark.

If you compare those 2 plays and still don't see it, I give up. I understand one is vs our D, one is high school. But just look at how ground is being covered. JG is wide open. Dobbs is more of a glider/rambling runner.

Pure speculation and opinion on your part, which is fine, just call it what it is. And if the absurd comparison was your point? ....with all due respect, it was a bad point imo.
Trying to equate a comparison between a 270 lb DE and 195 lb safety to a couple of 6'3, slender athletic qbs who are both very talented runners just doesn't wash....it's apples and oranges.

Also, you incorrectly stated that I said Dobbs is faster, which I havent. I've only said I can't say who's faster, while you say there's no doubt whatsoever, that JG is faster, you don't need anything else other than your own eyes, all other variables be damned.

The competition that he's running against makes a tremendous amount of difference. Since you're into ridiculous analogies, try this one. If you ran on film vs middle school kids, I think it's safe to say that you'd look a lot faster vs them than if you ran on film against HighSchool kids.

I used to rage at Chavis and his defense when they would flail at awkward tall Matt Jones when he QBd Arkansas...couldn't understand why they couldn't catch him...then he run a 4.3 40 at the combine and won free cocaine for life. Really fast defensive players look like they're standing still as Dobbs runs past them...don't care if Guarantano is faster than him as long as Dobbs is faster on the field...right now he is.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong, Dobbs is the man. I think he's 2nd team All SEC this season. Dak 1st team.

Fortenberry says "UT is trending very well" with JG right now. Just need to lock it up on the visit.

So apparently, here is our current QB board:

1. JG
2. Haskins Jr.
3. Woody Barrett (5.6 3* - kind of surprising)
4. Gaines
5. Oden

I think Austin Kendall was probably somewhere between 3-5, honestly, before UT decided to push for JG and Kendall took UT off his list.
Man if we pull Haskins Jr or JG we are set. I think Haskins is a top 5 QB in this class with JG close behind. JG is more mobile but Haskins has stupid quick release on the ball, which coaches really, really like. They both are elite prospects and in my opinion, are a better fit than Kendall for our offensive system.

What I'm sayin.

Austin Kendall who?

Kendall will be a good college QB in the right system. Haskins or JG fit us much better. And I still think we only take 1 QB, so that's a great pitch to them. Yeah, we took 3 last year but Ohio State has like 16 QB on scholly. There's something to be said for being the only player at your position in a given class.

TIFWIW but I just heard JG could commit, silently or publicly, on March 23rd. That coincides with his trip to skills camp in ATL and his UT visit. Wow.

Hope you're right, would be a great get....no matter how fast he is 😀😳😁

Guarantano has a more...natural I guess is how I would put it...running stride than Dobbs. Dobbs always looks a little stiff legged, but that hasn't held him back. He's plenty elusive and fast enough to make guys miss in the open field (obviously).
