Planet Fitness

You never come across a liar? I see men and women who are straight play rolls on TV that could fool anybody. The point is, planet fitness obviously don't care and will not take the risk of offending some transgender. The women lose in this scenario hands down. If this business really cared about all, they would create a seperate locker room for the gender confused. Problem solved.

An LGBT locker room? Equal size and quality, just separate?

So if I'm transgendered and don't pass the test of the (totally unqualified to make that decision) person working the front desk, then I'm just screwed?

I suppose you could bring in the letter you have from your doctor and psychologist that says you are in transition and ask the manager to attach a copy to your file. That should do it.

I just don't think it is that simple.

Perhaps you shouldn't make it this simple by claiming "it's no big deal."

I dress up like a woman, go into a Planet Fitness and start walking into the ladies room. I'm stopped by an employee who happens to notice my full beard.

"I'm gender confused," I say. "Just working on saving enough money to get the surgery."

Now who are they to stop me? Who are they to question me? I'm acting sincere. I'm hip with the LGBT crowd these days. I just don't feel like shaving yet.

Yeah, it's not that simple. It opens a huge door for those that can (and probably will) abuse that kind of system.

I suspect the person in question goes everywhere in women's clothes, uses women's rest rooms, etc. I suspect he was well known to the people there and they had no problem with him using that locker room. It was the new member who was surprised by his presence that started all of this.

Possibly in this case. What about next time?

Have you been in a ladies locker room lately? They aren't set up like the men's with open showers and people walking around naked (despite what we might see in the movies). They have individual shower stalls with room to change. Chances are this person would have kept the secret of his genitalia private and all the others in the locker room would have seen was a person in female clothing leave. Sort of like Tom Hanks in Bosom Buddies.

Below is a picture of the ladies locker room according to a separate news report. While it's my understanding that there are separate stalls, it is clear that there is also an open area with a center bench much like a man's locker room.

To address one of your earlier questions, yes... I think a big part of the issue is this person's masculinity and size. One of the reasons I did further research is because I also felt (and still believe) that the woman could have handled her complaint better than she did. However, I didn't want to judge her without having a better idea of what she was complaining about.

First off let me state that I did not post the picture so this person could be ridiculed (which is what some have done) and I find that inappropriate and unnecessary. However, in also finding out that this person was a guest of this facility (and not a member) to me made the situation even worse (i.e. Planet Fitness had no background information or history of this person as a customer... but lets him walk into a ladies dressing room). For this reason alone I think they should be criticized. Now they are in an unfortunate position of trying to state very little and just hope that this issue goes away without affecting them outside of the MI location.

I would actually like to get the opinion on this from someone who's opinion I value as I stated before. I haven't seen him around today so I'll use my power of summons...

Fabulous outfits! Fashion shows! Interior decorating!

Like I said in my other post, I don't think you just can walk off the treadmill and claim to be gender confused and head into the girls locker room. I would think there is more to it than that. I could be wrong, and I'm willing to pay $10 bucks for any straight guy to walk into the ladies locker room and announce they are gender confused and then just start changing clothes. If that person comes out without any sort of protest(or scars), then I would say they have a flawed policy and your fears are well founded. I just don't think it is that simple.

I suspect the person in question goes everywhere in women's clothes, uses women's rest rooms, etc. I suspect he was well known to the people there and they had no problem with him using that locker room. It was the new member who was surprised by his presence that started all of this.

I didn't provide full details in my other post, but in fact... the situation was just the opposite. The lady was a long time member and the person in question was a guest who, per my understanding had only visited this gym a few times.

This is not about the dude being in the women's locker room. This is about PC run amok. The woman had her membership revoked because a guest of the club went into her locker room, making her uncomfortable, and she had the gall to complain about it. Pathetic.

I know they don't care, but I'll never step foot inside a planet fitness.

I guess it would boil down to what you do in the locker room. If you go in, shower and dress, maybe catch glimpses of naked women along the way, then, well, you are a pervert but no harm done. And you are acting like an 8th grader...

Also, knowing women, if a man could even begin to know them, I submit you aren't the only one checking things out--judgmental wenches!

Now, if you go in and get all excited, touch yourself or someone else inappropriately, then you should be charged with sexual assault. Even if you were a true LGBT that would be the case.

In all seriousness, what's perverse about that?

The article I read said the woman who complained had only been a member for two months and that she stated she would not have joined knowing they had that policy.

Nobody else was required to provide documentation of their gender. Why should I have to?

Dressing up like a woman in order to infiltrate the women's locker room at Planet Fitness is a perverse amount of effort to look at something you could see on your phone in under 3 seconds.

Because you want to use the women's locker room and they won't let you.

So you don't want them to have some level of standards for the enforcement of this policy? You complain about the policy, but then want them to keep it loosely enforced?

So what you're saying is that it makes me a weirdo that I have one of my wife's dresses and her high heels on right now and am on my way to planet fitness?

Let's see, what would be worse? A gender confused dude, who would most likely not be attracted to my wife or daughters, or a hot young lesbian who would be attracted to them?

How would you feel about a gay man using a locker room with you or your sons? Cuz they are.

So you will be the first to volunteer your wife or daughter to use a locker room with an unknown naked male present. I'm sure you won't mind if we ask your wife's opinion on that.

I'm assuming none of you guys would ever take your family to the beach where they could be ogled at by anyone, right?

Certainly not a clothing optional beach.

I'll put it this way, I'm not going to stop them from using a facility just because there may be someone different using it as well.

Edit: It is possible that we already do. We belong to the JCC, which goes out of its way to promote diversity, so it wouldn't surprise me to find out there were transgender people using the facilities.

I've been to a clothing optional beach with the wife. She of course chose the clothing option for both of us.

Sounds to me like PF wanted to sell that they welcome all but they chose the cheap way by allowing customers to use whichever locker room they relate to. An extra locker room would have solved the issue in a better way.

On the other hand, I guess then the question would be how many locker rooms do you have to provide? Facebook now has 51 different gender identity options! Not sure if it was posted here or not What Each of Facebook . That would be a lot of locker rooms

And yet strip clubs are still in business despite the prevalence of Internet porn...

Where have I complained about the policy? Don't bother looking through my posts on this thread, because you certainly won't find it here.

What you will find is me pointing out how Planet Fitness boasted of this imaginary standard that no one will feel unwelcome or intimidated and then in the same breath cited a policy that is a blatant contradiction to it.

I'm not really complaining at all… I just like to point out hypocrisy when I see it.
