Even More Obamacare Follies

So again, why should someone who eats responsibly, gets regular exercise, doesn't smoke and all those things have to pay for lottery paying smoking drinking welfare recipients that do nothing but sit on their asses all day? It is another .gov hand out.

That was happening long before ACA went into affect. But it was in the form of rising premiums and increased costs of hospital visits etc. This was due to those irresponsible people you spoke of who don't have insurance driving up cost.

The ACA has its issues but don't think for a second you're just now starting to pay for others healthcare when you have been for years.

Oh I get that. It's just now that der fuhrer has given the green light to engage in those activities with the understanding that you can walk into the ER with end stage cancer from smoking 5 packs/day and say "Here I am, treat me"... and not have to pay a dime to get that treatment. Action has no consequence in the liberal/socialist world except to those that have to pay for it.

To be fair. Anyone can get cancer at any point in time regardless of how you take care of yourself. Pretty unfair example. My aunt has cancer that is untreatable and never smoked a day in her life, ate right, and went to regular Dr appointments. Sometimes it just happens.

I hope your Aunt will experience abundant peace and the blessings of loving family support while she is afflicted with her cancer.

Thanks brother. She's taking it like a champ to be honest. Refuses to quit work and still involved in everything. My dad is taking it way worse than she is.

The uninsured typically have the most health problems.. Therefore they consume more heathcare than someone with... Also, when the govt is paying for your coverage... You really don't give a Shat how much you consume becuse your not paying it ..

More and more employers will drop Heathcare benefits in the coming years as a cost savings move... A two tier system will develop.

1 expensive private cottage industry type with unbelievable care
2. Govt with limited choice and crappy care and wait times

This is my biggest concern. Businesses will start to drop benefits as a form of cost savings.

The issue most companies will not realize is the choices they have with insurance plans and companies. For instance the CDHP plan I mentioned before. Consumer driven health plan... The less you use it the greater the chance you don't pay anything out of pocket. Couple that with the wellness program we have (weight management, stop smoking, fitness reimbursement etc) drives a healthier culture. So when the time comes to negotiate price and plans on the principle that we done have a lot of claims against health care reduces cost for the company and employees. Now given you're going to have situations that are beyond your control.. You're eliminating a lot of people going to the er for a soar throat when they don't really need to.

I also realize that some companies could give two shots about their employees. It's all about the bottom line and profits now instead of long term earnings and success. Pathetic.

Ummmmm... that's been the norm for 50 years. The ACA reduces that by letting poor people go to a family doctor well before it gets to that point.

What about when your employer is paying for the insurance?

It's true in any 3rd party payer system. The further the consumer is removed from the cost of the goods and services, the more they will consume.

What about when your employer is paying for the insurance?

They will simply not offer it or give you an allotment of money to buy on the exchange.. This will happen sooner rather than later. The cost is already shifting to the individual and soon everyone will be on their own of with the govt program ..

Insurance will be becomes like pensions.from emplyers .....bye bye

Did he explain why?

Because they will lose customers, more likely the healthier ones.

I wonder if the effect may be a overstated, because (in Tennessee, at least) only about 10% of private insurance policies are bought by individuals, but that's what he said. He's pretty wired into what's going on, giving advice to congressional staffs and such.

proof this occurs?

We already know Medicaid users are heavier users of the ER than the uninsured.

Dem Senators Beg For Another Obamacare Delay | The Daily Caller

The letter was signed by Democratic Sens. Claire McCaskill, Heidi Heitkamp, Chris Coons, Joe Manchin, Joe Donnelly and Jon Tester and independent Sen. Angus King, who caucuses with the Democrats.

“We are writing to share our concerns regarding scheduled changes to the definition of the small group market under the Affordable Care Act (ACA),” the senators wrote in the letter, dated March 12.

“Under the law, employers with 51 to 100 employees will be included in the ACA’s definition of small group market starting in 2016. Instead of providing stability, we believe expanding the definition will force those historically defined ‘large group plans’ into the ‘small group market,’ where they could experience higher premiums, less flexibility, and new barriers to coverage. We therefore encourage you to delay the effective date in the definition change for two years so the market can more smoothly transition to the new rules.”

“We appreciate the Administration’s efforts to ensure the law is implemented in the least disruptive, most beneficial manner. For example, the Administration has delayed implementation of the employer shared responsibility requirements. At the same time, the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) has experienced delays in implementation. As enacted, the ACA was to have provided this market segment two full years of experience under the employer mandate and in SHOP exchanges before re-categorizing their plans into the small group market. Because these two very significant building blocks have not occurred as anticipated, we believe continuing on with the redefinition of small group next year would be particularly harmful and disruptive.”
