I don't think the forward pass has even been around that long. The style of football UT plays definitely hasn't. The spread is here to stay. It isn't invincible. It isn't a necessity for victory. It also isn't this gimmick bullcrap that everyone keeps claiming will be figured out in no time.

The spread forces more one on one situations with your athletes versus theirs. If the D player misses an open field tackle it is a big gain. WV ran all over OU with it.

Cignetti doesn't really run a West Coast offense, that's just a euphemism used by ignorant sports journalists to describe any pro-set offense run by a guy in the western part of the country. Fresno State was much more aggressive and went downfield a lot when he was running their show. The West Coast offense doesn't go downfield except as a change of pace.

He didn't really have a chance at UNC. I live out here and I can tell you that the Tar Heels had nothing that year. The smartest OC in the world couldn't have produced much with the talent they had.

Hope we get this guy. What he does fits in well enough with our current system, but it's more up-to-date and he knows how to get the best from his talent. Paul Pinegar wasn't a great talent, but Cignetti made him look like a star, and not just against the wacky WAC.

He is available (maybe) to work at UTK. Having read the resume only, I think Cignetti is certainly qualified enough to deserve the benefit of the doubt for a season.

Does anyone else get the impression that maybe sitting head coaches are a little complicit in allowing their pals/former associates to play up rumors of job offers in order to get raises/promotions at their existing place of employment?

yea he will tell them to load their weapons before each game.

He has sounded like the right choice since his name came up several weeks ago plus his NFL experience cannot hurt and he is suppose to be a damn good recruiter.

Gimmicky bullcrap is exactley what meyers version of the spread is.

You want to see the tru spread look at west virginia.

He fits great to our system and would satisfy a lot of Fulmer's requirements for a hire. Plus a breath of fresh air. I can only hope. This seems to be the right one for the job. Young. Use to this level of play. A capable individual as revealed on his resume. West Coast Connections and he has been around. He knows how to compete at a championship level so he knows preparation skills. Could be the Right man for the Right Job at the Right time.

I couldn't agree more, he does feel alot of needs. I'm actually excited about this guy being at UT, but I will wait till that day comes before I get carried away.

Martz and Jones philosophy is that out of 3 downs, one pass will go for 10 yards, so keep throwing, and throwing

Appears as though this would be a much better hire than I was anticipating. I hope we get this guy. Fresno was pretty exciting there for a little bit. You cant judge him by what happened at UNC because they suck duck butter.:)

No spread / run and shoot offenses at UT--those gimmicks will not work in the SEC long term. UF's spread was shut down by Michigan, a slow big 10 team.

Not so sure I would call 399 total yards and 5 touchdowns being shut down. Floridas problem was not the offense. It was their defense allowing 524 yards. Floridas offense did just fine. As i recall it seemed to work pretty well against us to.

Texas Tech runs the spread offense...WVU runs the spread option offense....and Hawaii runs the run and shoot they are all different

The -1 came from the fact that we sacked their QB to the tune of -31 yards.

You have to think what that offense would have done with the talent that is recruited at Tennessee against the teams in the SEC, rather than the type of talent recruited at Fresno St against teams in the SEC.

"a few days ago" is a general statement. I didn't realize you want date time and word for word documentation of every bit of information about UT that I get. Anyone know of a good stenographer that I can hire to document every conversation I have so that I can make sure this "guru" gets every bit of information.

400 total yards of offense isn't exactly being shut down. Michigan just torched a young secondary with experienced QB/WR

That still means they managed only 30 rushing yards against us.
