How Many National Championships Should the Vols Claim?

Scenario: You really want a date with the most beautiful girl in school (AP, UPI polls) but she says no. In the meantime, an ugly girl asks you to on a date (Dunkel) and you go. Do you tell people 50 years from now that you never had a girlfriend or do you mention the date with the ugly girl? Bama has dated lots of ugly girls and will brag about them.

UT has 3 titles that are pretty iron clad. But, if they use Alabubbas math it is a very minimum of 7 and upwards of 10 or so.

But we should claim the ones awarded but not recognized, ( like some do)

14,27.28,31,39,.56,85,89. That would give us 14.

IMO, you can only consider the systems and polls that were in place at the time, so that eliminates 1956 for me.

This, of course, requires a faith that polls are better than the other existing systems. I have my doubts that either the AP or the coaches poll have ever been anything more than self interest and confirmation bias wrapped in a shell of something that appears fair.

ex: The coaches poll would be as meaningful as allowing Mrs. America contestants to vote on the winner. The AP poll's flaw is that it would rely on sports journalists to have any objectivity and no vested interest in the narrative that their rankings creates.

Ha! Yeah, when I created the thread, the '7' option was meant to be 'all of them.' I never heard of the poll/ranking systems Daj found, like Annual Football Predictions. The State's National Champions, or Angelo Louisa. Daj's list of 14 potential national championships was a complete surprise. :)

By that logic, Missouri should claim a 2007 national championship, LSU should claim one in 2011, and USC should claim a 2002 championship,

And honestly, teams just seem to be upping these numbers recently for recruits more than anything...almost as if mainly for "keeping up with the Joneses."
