'16 NC QB Austin Kendall (former UT commit)

NSD? Surely you jest? Everyone knows I would have my recruiting class finished long before NSD.

You can offer as many as ya want. Once the guy you "want" commits, say Mr. Kendall, that's when the offers need to stop at that position IMO.

Don't sell a kid on being "the guy" and "we are only taking one", then offer another QB 2 months later. When the committed guy walks, don't ask why. Just chalk it up to a very stupid move.

Hugh Freeze and Drew Richmond agree with this post, banking on your guy gets you burned. we don't get burned with Butch because he is ready for it. just because you get your guy doesn't mean you burn bridges or don't say hello anymore to the others.

Guy has two straight top 5 classes..."stupid move" away Butch. Thank you for taking care of our program. What's that? To fill our roster with talent, we lost a commit? Did he play 10 other positions at the same time? Forgive yourself Butch. We'll take this over babysitting a player and hoping he sticks...only for him to flip and we're left with nothing. Some guy on our message board still hasn't forgiven you for still recruiting Dobbs when we had Riley Ferguson committed... Thank you for not recruiting scared Butch...we like Dobbs!

Sincerely,

The men and women of Volnation

Would it be top 5 after you remove Payne, Scott, Hendrix, Sawyers, Henderson, Wharton, Helm, and Paulk?

Will be interesting to see where it ends up in a couple years.

Top 5...read it on the internet. Still trying to catch up on the rerankings from Bama's class that lost Kamara...bet that program took quite the tumble!

Sawyers: failed drug tests
Henderson: ncaa grades issue
Paulk: allegations of violence against a female

You cannot blame CBJ for those.

Also, Helm, Hendrix and Wharton were not told to leave. They apparently bailed because they were not the guy at their position. They were outworked by other freshmen.

Just curious, if the first three were still on the team what would your stance be?

In playing that game it's still almost a full normal signing class. You would also have to rerank Wolf, Moseley, Gaulden, Robertson, Owen Williams to consensus 4 stars. Hurd and Barnett to consensus 5 stars.

If the HC is shady, then you don't get to rerank the players...just the class...sorry. :hi: Don't make the rules.

There is a lot of attrition in major-college football. That said, I don't like oversigning at one position. We've now got four QBs signed/committed in two years. That's a lot. Obviously, coaches have to assess whether a kid who commits is going to keep his word or not.

We had ONE scholarship QB...were you in love with that?

Five. Four this year and one next so far.

Sign a dozen over a 4 year period. Hope you hit on 1-2. The NEW world of recruiting.

"We ain't got no time to develop these guys"! LOL

Worked a lot better when we signed only Nathan Peterman...he felt safe and developed at a comfortable pace...more of that IMO FWIW JMO TCU SMU ALEVA

But Leb says that gaining a commitment and stopping recruiting the position is the righteous way to go about it. Why, oh why, did Richmond flip on signing day when CHF had so obviously recruited him the right way. LMAO. Recruiting scared gets you left at the altar...poor, poor Hugh. Bless his heart, he did everything right with Richmond. How could this ever happen to him? Maybe since CHF fits Leb's mold of how a coach should recruit, he can just go be an Ole Miss fan. We wouldn't miss him. JMO IMO FWIW WWJD WIFI AARP C3PO R2D2

According to daj, looks like we still have plenty of talent left...

Before the attrition, the average recruit was a 5.8 four star. None of the men who have left (either voluntarily or by being urged to look elsewhere) were starters. Looking a bit deeper, Tennessee's class started out with 31 recruits, and has had up to 8 defections, leaving 23 recruits. The average remaining recruit is still a 5.8 four star. This also means that Tennessee's remaining 2014 class is as big, or bigger, than the top 25 classes that LSU, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Georgia, USC, Notre Dame, Clemson, Stanford, South Carolina, UCLA, Texas, Michigan State and North Carolina even signed in 2014. Further, Alabama (26) and Florida State (28) are the only two schools that recruited better than UT that might have more remaining players in the unlikely event that they suffered from zero attrition at all.

I don't think losing any of those guys kills that class. Jmo...

Lol...can't forget that walk-on. We will have FOUR scholarship QBs this fall. Please show me all these teams who make a habit of only having a couple on scholarship. If someone leaves or switches positions oh well. CBJ has to take care of the team's needs now...

^This...numbers are so much easier when you just count em and not assign personality and morals to them.

Yeah people counting Jancek as some big signee are just doing that for their stat argument. Kid is a walk on and will not be a legit factor with how we recruit. There had been talk that they hope he can grow into a TE but they may just keep him around as a backup QB to learn coaching ropes.

Ethics and integrity doesn't apply to college football?

Sure...that's why there's an award for it every year...more valued than the National Championship trophy. No repeat winners for some nitpick winning percentage/employment bias in the voting process.

This explains a lot about you. Thanks for clearing the air and getting out in the open.
