Well, the good news is that we should know something within a couple of weeks... but in the meatime, the wait stinks.

I am starting to believe that Fulmer really is going outside of his historic comfort zone on this hire.

If Fulmer hits a home run on this hire.... I will be absolutely amazed. And ridiculously happy.

problem is, we're going to try to evaluate the home run-ness from the get go and we'll have no real idea until we see the relationship between the new OC and CPF. If Fulmer's stamp remains all over the offense, it won't matter if we bring in Spurrier as OC.

Most of the guys on here that are mentioning Hatcher know next to absolutely nothing about him. I'm sure you most of you guys are so high on him because of Google and searching stats. I'm also sure it's not because of watching games that Valdosta State and Georgia Southern have played. Hatcher is just a name to most people because of his statistical success, not based off of what people know of him personally. If he gets interviewed that's great, if he get's hired great, but we won't know anything about HIM until IF or WHEN he gets to Knoxville. I would almost bet that had Southern not beaten Appy St. his name wouldn't be mentioned. I'm sure those big wins over West Georgia and Coastal Carolina will be a factor in the process. BTW, I'm not knocking the guy as a coach as I am sure he would be capable, I am knocking the guys that just throw names out without knowledge of the person first.

I know as much more about Hatcher than I do any other potential candidate. Trooper Taylor not excluded. Spend a few minutes talking to Dusty Bonner, and he will tell you all you need to know.

As I said Lex, most of the guys on here. You are excluded from that group obviously.

Substitute the name Todd Raleigh for Hatcher in this post and you have the foundation of another recent UT hire. Jury is still out on that one too...

Hatcher's name was circulating (in the media anyway) the last time the post was open. I doubt he even interviews....but at this point anything can happen.

Will someone go stand on Fulmer's lawn and demand to know what is going on. I have work to do and I cannot focus.

What's funny about everything is the cloud of smoke that Fulmer has around him at this point. Although I don't believe we would have even been at this point had Kippy not gotten promoted and a raise at Detroit. Whether or not Kippy stays is the question right now, the next question is who does Fulmer TRUST other than him since it seems Fulmer was almost counting on Kippy to take the job based on reports he was going to move here after the NFL season to be closer to family.

I don't think we have heard the last of Kippy yet. If he is the man that Fulmer wants (and I think he is) he just handed a ton of leverage to his negotiating agent.

I think about $200,000 is the gap between Kippy and someone else.

Well Kippy makes the most sense with what is going on--You would need a QB coach type guy to go with him. If Kippy has an NFL pension coming then there is not much difference in the money.

$200,000 is $200,000 and is a big deal to a NFL coach. I'm not sure what Kippy is making in Detroit, but I would say it is around $450,000 to $600,000 based on the experience he has. Cignetti has not been in the league that long and would be easier to lure based on the pay difference and the fact he has more recent experience in the college game. Kippy would have to make an adjustment back to almost 15 years ago when he was last in the NCAA.

I do not think Fulmer was "counting" on him to take the job and is now freaking out.

Maybe since phil will be in cali. Maybe he could stop by southern cal's offices and see who he could interest in a job.

I would say he isn't freaking out, but he's also not comfortable with what happened either. If Kippy gets hired, I can see alot of people questioning his loyalty based on what has happened with the whole "negotiation" reports.

. . . and then there are some people who actually have met the guy and know what they are talking about when they throw his name out. :good!:

The Appy State win was nice, but it didn't really do anything for his credentials. He's had the credentials for a couple of years now and has been recognized as an up and coming name for 2-3 years at least.
