So is Debord gonna run the wing T or what?

j/k

That seems to be the prevailing theory. Don't see it at all. Think you will see more counter type action in the run game instead of the gap scheme type stuff that didn't work you saw last season. Also will see more vertical passing instead of the sideways fetish of Jake. When the opponents can't cover the WR's they have to give safety help over top. That frees the slot, TE and RB's to make big plays. If they single cover they get burned deep by the WRs. We will have the Jimmies and Joes with experience to do real damage.

After watching the recruiting day celebration I have come away with some definite impressions. College football obviously has some cyclical elements. There are also perennial "haves" and "have nots" in the game. The tactical game around scheme and recruiting is fascinating. I remember in the '90s where it was apparent that the Florida D line was giving them a decided advantage and at the same time it was understood that Tennessee speed was a difference maker. How the game grew away from these moments is anyone's guess. I do remember that Tennessee was able to recruit in away that neutralized what was once an advantage in scheme. Of course there were many factors. There is always a great challenge in the life cycle of a program where the recruiting profile switches to recruiting blue chip recruits at the top of the services to reload rather than targeting recruits that are top flight and hungry to be part of something that is building. We all have seen how this transition can break a program down.

My comment is directed specifically at the decidedly Michigan colored connections that seem to define the coaching tree that is aboard now in Knoxville especially on O, but Stripling fits the profile too. Coach Jones apparently made a conscious decision at Cincinnati to cultivate relationships with defensive coaches who had had SEC experience. We are just now understanding the fully the antecedents of his offensive philosophy

Here's the thing. The Vols 47-17 Citrus Bowl win over Michigan coming off the 2001 season is looming large in how things are developing now. That win over Michigan must have impressed the Michigan connected coaches that we are bringing on board now with what is possible at Tennessee. Michigan has had its own cyclic problem in the interim. Jones emphasizes that the program he is building seeks people who "need" football. Its part of the reason that Jones distinctly sees the Tennessee opportunity for what it is. Kiffin was unable to appreciate the dimension of what a little sustained swagger could bring to Knoxville. Though its probably not unreasonable for him to have compared this potential to the potential the USC program has. Thing is opportunity does not knock frequently.

Jones gets it, and its easy for me to say as a message board poster, but the Vols are positioned with hungry established coaches and extremely talented players who in the framework of the Tennessee tradition are poised to have a nice run atop the heap. Tennessee is meeting their need in a way no other program is configured to at the present moment. It takes all the ingredients that are being attracted to the situation. Of course I could be wrong, but this is the very strong impression I am coming away with at the moment. There are the SEC, the Texas teams, a reloading USC and the defending champion to overcome. But I think its not only possible but also trending our way.

Hell of a post.

I once said the same thing..of course you are right, suicide is never the way out. But back in my former life, before I was saved, I was driven to the brink myself. I understand the forces that can cause a person to think life is not worth living. When every waking moment is filled with pain for days, months and years on end, eventually you begin to think that you will never see light, or feel warmth and happiness again. I thank God and give him all the honor for the life I have today. I think about all the beauty and joy I would have missed if I had pulled that trigger..."This I recall to mind, and therefore have I hope. It is of the lords mercies that we are not consumed. Because his compassions fail not. They are renewed every morning. Great is thy faithfulness."...don't mean to preach at anybody, but I would be a faithless wretch if I didn't give God the glory he deserves. Hope that helps somebody.

Extremely well said and an awesome testimony.

I'll add this: I never understood it either until I saw someone very close to me struggle with a bout of severe depression. Even with our faith, it was a maddening struggle. I now have a healthy understanding for what a warped mind, be it a chemical imbalance or a bad situation, can do to your thoughts. God brought us through that time as well, and the faith we gained was immeasurable.

In the very near future, we're going to be able to platoon the Dline and they'll ALL be good.

Far cry from only having three competent D tackles.

All I want is to line up in I formation in short yardage situations. Let Hurd do his thing. Shotgun in short yardage gives me the hebejebes.

You experienced the other side, what the family and friends go through. Yours is also an awesome testimony, maybe even more so. I am blessed with a great family. They were there for me through my recovery. I know how hard it ws on them. Faith is such a beautiful thing. Sad that more will not turn to it...now back to our regularly scheduled VN mudslinging gripe fest..hehehe.

The fact that Maggitt had 11 sacks is crazy. Barnett gets all the hype on defense, but Maggitt is going to be an absolute beast next year.
I agree. I found myself focusing on Maggitt to see what he was going to do. He dominant and in the other teams head alot.

.... 6200 TOTAL yards.... thats rushing and passing combined, not receiving by itself lol

Lol...really?

Uhh.......

My account was hacked! I just logged back in to get some updates. Someone was posting about math and I don't remember that. This isn't funny. I have been afraid to even post today after reading some things and it needs to stop. It's one thing to joke around about leb and numbers but this has gone beyond that.

I couldn't care less what anyone says about the hire outside VN. People are looking for the weak link in our chain because they are scared.

I know some will complain within our fanbase. Give him a chance. If he sucks, let her rip. If he's good we all win.

Let's at least give him a chance before we declare he sucks.
Best post I've seen you make Volatil.

I need something to listen to. I'm open to all suggestions. Right now I'm listening to The Streets - A Grand Don't Come for Free.

I'd prefer something slightly outside of mainstream.

You guys have any suggestions?

If you have spotify download all the albums by a band called " the weeks" especially the song buttons. Theyre pretty awesome.

This time of day I like to mellow out to my cool jazz station on Pandora. Can't go wrong with a little Dave Brubeck or John Coltrane. Alison Krauss and Union Station is always full of awesome.

Screamo/hard Christian rock is my hype choice. A little Red, Underoath, or Project 86 gets the blood flowing nicely.

May not be anywhere close to what you're thinking, but both are out there.
