How does one go about loling in their pants glicht :)

I don't recommend amatuers try it but you're gonna need some 5W20 Penzoil brand motor oil, a step ladder, an egg timer, and the ripest honey dew melon you can get your paws on.

Lol. Ageism is a real thing, folks. DeBord isn't even THAT old. He's 58 but looks 75. Maybe he should wear a Gus Malzahn mask on the sidelines.

lol I'm going to stay away from the FF. Since I'm about 7-8 years older than DeBord they would surely be wishing me dead. Saban's 63 and no one complains about his age. I'd bet that a lot of the people (not all) that are crying about his age are in the 18-25 age range and talk to others their age about how dumb their parents and grandparents are.
Just because he hasn't been directly involved in coaching the past 2-4 years doesn't mean he hasn't kept up with the game.
I'm hoping most of the people on the RF gives DeBord a chance to prove what he can do. I'm sure that most on the FF will not. I don't have a clue about how good he is or what he knows but I'm going to give him a chance. Just guessing I'd say he knows more than most of us on the RF about football (except for Tux). :)

Out of all the candidates who would have no problem throwing away their playbooks and exclusively using Butch's, yes, I do think DeBord was probably the best hire he could make.

To be fair, the list of proven OCs who fit that bill is very small.

Touche...I guess I can't argue that aspect of it. I just hope big Mike proves me wrong...

Cronyism...unless they're related. :)

nep·o·tism
ˈnepəˌtizəm
noun
the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs.

I think we're both right :)

No. That definition isn't correct. I got blasted for this in 7th grade for misusing nepotism for anything other than family.

And by blasted I mean failed a quiz.

Debord was HC at Central Michigan from 2000-2005 or so.

Butch was his RB coach for two years then OC for 3 years.

While there they put in the offense TN now runs so the offense won't change.

When Debord got fired as CMU's head coach and went back to Michigan he went back to running Lloyd Carr's offense.

His and Butch's offense is what we run now and what Butch has run his entire 8 year coaching career.

The hire is very deBoring and I will wait and see how he is at calling plays (my main concern) but I am VERY happy there is no terminology change and he can just come in and provide his OL expertise and help that group.

Big ? is calling plays and will just have to wait and see how it goes this fall.

If it is what CBJ wants, then let's ride...I trust him.

Everyone thought Janzeck would be terrible and he's improving our D by leaps and bounds and did it this year with no DL starters returning.

I was wondering about Debord's offensive philosophy's connection with Butch's. Much appreciate you spelling out the connection :hi:

English is an ever evolving language! I'm sticking to my guns! haha

Ha, you do so..I would too.

Had this come up in a master's class not long ago...

Nepotism implies a relationship between family members whereas cronyism implies favoritism shown to friends, acquaintances, and colleagues...at least according to perhaps the most monotone, boring professor I ever had.

The ONLY reason Dillon Bates is even on this team is because of my voting prowess. If it hadn't been for that award I won him in Florida, he wouldn't have come here.

Still waiting on my check!! $$$$

Fahr Butch!

Wait a dang minute! I had my office computer going continually with that BOT thing and had both my kids and my wife voting continually along with myself.

I should at least get honorable mention!

Fine, I concede haha....

Id be more worried if we had a HC that has never run an offense himself. It's not going to be some drastic failure or improvement. It's going to be business as usual with better players. We might have some things get better or some things tail off but in terms of the sinking ship comments those are stupid.

This isn't Dooley who had never coached his own offense or defense to where it could sink a ship with a bad hire. This isn't Fulmer or Les Miles who were figure heads dependent on their OCs implementing their own systems.

This is Butch Jones offense and system. He is just hiring someone to run it.

You forgot the live chicken and vasoline.

Edit: Sorry. I missed that you subbed the motor oil for the petroleum jelly.

You may have found that definition, but true nepotism laws prevent the hiring of relatives. You can't really prevent the hiring of friends. We all have relationships with people, and I can't be prevented from hiring someone that I have a prior relationship with. Nepotism can clearly be proven.

You're a few posts late....already admitted being in the wrong haha
