Why the Cheap Shots in the Outback Bowl?

if the qb goes in head first, he's free game. That's the rule. Berry lowered his shoulders and plowed into him. Not the defenses fault that Donovan doesn't like to slide.

and when he did slide he almost tore up a knee.

i guess your supposed to ease up when your about to hit the qback because....im sure the players are worried about character issues when they are about to sack the qback. watch ut swimming if you dont like contact sports. i guess georgia was playing dirty with overrated hawaii last night too cause they annhilated brennan

yeah, the knee injury had nothing to do with a hit from anyone. He tried to stop on the run, slid and then his knee buckled and ultimately got hit. Even then the defense did exactly what they're supposed to do.

Wisconsin spent too much time whining about the QB getting hit instead of playing the game. It cost them. Football's rough in the SEC baby---don't like it, stay home.

Am I the only one who thought the Vols had some dirty hits in the bowl game? It seemed like they were intent on delivering shots to the head and/or late hits, especially to the other QB. I'm all for aggressive play, but that was too much. The academic suspensions were embarrassing enough: you don't needs play like that to raise additional "character" issues about the program on a national stage.

I wish we had played that 'physical' against AL, CA and FL and LSU. No one wants to see other players hurt but our team has to play with enthusiasm.

I kept wondering what the fuss was about. None of the hits really looked cheap to me. Honestly, I didn't even think Berry's hit on the Wisc QB in the endzone was even helmet to helmet or all that late.

We played good, hard nosed football...that's all there is to it

There were only two hits that were questionable....the QB run into the end zone and the late hit on the last Wisconsin drive...

The hit on the QB was the QB's fault because he went head first into the end zone...opening himself up to whatever he got...if it was helmet to helmet then there would be an argument but all Berry did was try to stop him

The late hit on the last drive was a late hit but it didn't seem dirty to me....the UT player was playing hard and couldn't stop his momentum...

As for all of the other hits....WE'RE TALKING ABOUT FOOTBALL FOR CHRIST SAKES!!!!!

This is a violent game played by big, strong, fast men...

If the hits we were laying on them were to tough maybe they should quit football and become ballerinas

Tennessee didn't play "cheap" or "dirty." They played physical. That's the way football is supposed to be played - especially at schools like Tennessee. To question the character of UT's players for playing with intensity and physicality is ridiculous.

Welcome wisc to big boy football, I for one was damn glad to see the VOLS hit like the VOLS of old...nothing dirty or cheap, just good solid hits by Eric Berry and Jerod Mayo just to name a few. Hope this is a sign of things to come, hit em hard dont say S--t, and watch the snot bubbles arrive. GO VOLS

But isnt it a rule in practice that you aren't suppose to hit the QB when he is wearing a red jersey?

Wussconsin, are you kidding me? I thought you played in the "physical" big 10(11?). Stop crying and take your beating like men.

Nothing dirty about that game, just hard hitting physical football.
