Mike DeBord - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Offensive Coordinator at the University of Tennessee[edit]
On February 6, 2015, DeBord was hired by Tennessee Head Coach Butch Jones as Offensive Coordinator, replacing former Offensive Coordinator Mike Bajakian who left to become Quarterbacks Coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.[11]

We all knew it.... now that Butch has everyone elated with our signing class, he pays his old mentor back and hires a guy who isn't even coaching, or even coaching as an OC.... I get that he is brought in just to run the existing system and that is all well and good, but this is not a long-term solution. Heard he is one hell of a recruiter though... wait, never mind.... Just can't understand why he would smokescreen for so long and actually ACT like he was looking at other folks and he was "humbled" at the interest in the job- BS. Oh well, hope someone gives him enough coffee if we play any night games so he stays awake at the wheel....

I lol'ed in my pants a little at this one.

Can't wait to hear butch get roasted at the presser when he has to field the questions he is gonna get. How can you be "comfortable" hiring someone who has never run this type of offense, and hasn't recruited an athlete since the Internet. Way to go Butch.

Not sure what that means but I think it is an Al Gore joke in some fashion.

No problem with Butch getting his guy, but why wait until after NSD to announce? Didn't want to answer questions?

Dead period so you don't want someone feeding your players negativity last minute without ample opportunity to answer. There was no benefit to announcing before NSD

I hope Butch is right. He's confident in his system and his playbook and thinks they cannot be enhanced by an infusion of new ideas and a fresh perspective. It's an underwhelming hire that he knows is universally unpopular and he made it with heightened expectations on the line. Gonna be a lot of headshaking...

I'm good with debord, gotta give him a chance. It's Butch's decision and its his a$$ on the line if he doesn't win, so let's stand behind our coach and see what happens

Yeesh I need to take a shower after going over there. Always feel dirty and leave with less brain cells.

I spoke with Carr some months after the game when he had retired and he was still basking in the glow of the victory over Florida, somewhat smug that Michigan was able to defeat the mighty gators. It was a great way for him to leave UM as head coach.

Debord was HC at Central Michigan from 2000-2005 or so.

Butch was his RB coach for two years then OC for 3 years.

While there they put in the offense TN now runs so the offense won't change.

When Debord got fired as CMU's head coach and went back to Michigan he went back to running Lloyd Carr's offense.

His and Butch's offense is what we run now and what Butch has run his entire 8 year coaching career.

The hire is very deBoring and I will wait and see how he is at calling plays (my main concern) but I am VERY happy there is no terminology change and he can just come in and provide his OL expertise and help that group.

Big ? is calling plays and will just have to wait and see how it goes this fall.

If it is what CBJ wants, then let's ride...I trust him.

Everyone thought Janzeck would be terrible and he's improving our D by leaps and bounds and did it this year with no DL starters returning.

The timing of this was obviously done so that recruits wouldn't be scared off. I'm not excited by the hire because it's not a slam dunk, but I have no reason to doubt the man's coaching abilities. I'll reserve judgment until I see him on the sidelines and on the recruiting trail.
