2008 Preseason Rankings

Chase Daniel will give Tebow the biggest scare for his back to back Heisman bid. He might even win it.

1.Oklahoma
2.USC
3.Georgia
4.Texas
5.Florida

My way early top 5
USC wont be in the top 5 for 3 reasons

1:First year starter:Mustain,Sanchez,or Corp
2:Lose leading rusher,and leading receiver
3:Lose Sedrick Ellis,Lawrence Jackson,and Keith Rivers

They were ranked #1 last season mainly because they had such a dominate recruiting class they pulled in.

Recruiting classes play a role where teams are ranked too,if Tenn pulled in the #1 recruiting class we'd be around #5 preason for 2008.

Thats why teams like Alabama,Florida State, and Miami will start the season most likely at #21,#23,#24 respesctively off of their recruiting talent and return of more than 80% of their starters.

I know this is a bold statement but BYU will be in the BCS National Championship next year,if they beat Utah.

okay so they were ranked number 1 because of a recruiting class, but they won't be ranked high this year because they have to replace some starters? That makes absolutely no sense

Then, if we're only looking at the talent on each team's roster, I'd have to leave Kansas out of my preseason top 25.
How is Kansas not in the Top 10 off of talent.

We're talking college talent rather than high school talent.

Miami and Fla St are in the Top 5 of high school talent, but both are mediocre.

Kansas doesnt have great high school talent, but they have good college talent and thats how they've won this season.

Id take college talent like Todd Reesing over high school talent like Xavier Lee anyday.

Because they had a returning QB,offense and defense, crushed #3 Michigan in the Rose Bowl, had the #1 recruiting class and they're USC.

.

Again, take a glance at their schedule. They didn't win because of their superior "top 10 talent."

They won because they avoided Oklahoma and Texas in the conference and because they didn't play a non-conference opponent from a BCS conference.

If you think they have one of the 10 most talented teams in the country, you're insane.

Kansas rode a putrid schedule to a bogus BCS bid. The only real team they played kicked their teeth out. Virginia Tech will hammer them in the Orange Bowl, then OU and Texas will pinatatize them next year. Anyone who puts Kansas in their preseason Top 15 next year has assured themselves of looking like a fool by the end of October.

I guarantee you USC will be top 5 in the preseason polls next year. by the way, they will crush Illinois in the Rose Bowl this year, probably hammer down a top recruiting class, and they will still be USC

Kansas still played 6 bowl teams. Not a great schedule, but I think you're taking it a little too far JayTrain.

The only points that I've made about Kansas are that that they would have no business in the preseason top 10 next year and that they are not among the 10 (or even 25) most talented teams in the country.

I couldn't care less that they played 6 bowl teams. Most teams from BCS conferences play at least 6 bowl teams on their 12 game schedule. That doesn't impress me.

I would be really interested in hearing the basis for a prediction this crazy. If an undefeated Hawai'i or Boise St doesnt play for the NT, neither will BYU. Your love for BYU is glaring with this post

Completely confident way too early preseason prediction, BYU will not make the NC even if they beat Utah

First Reegan says that Kansas is one of the 10 most talented teams in the country.

Then Reegan predicts that BYU will play in the national championship game next year.

Maybe Reegan's just being sarcastic, and we're not picking up on it. Or, maybe Reegan is insane.

Florida won't start number 1, but I think they will be outstanding and could end up number 1.

Tebow will come back to earth next year, Florida may make a run at it, but they will lose 1 or 2 games regardless

Florida's defense will be improved, and I can't see them having a mediocre offense. I think they could run the table in the SEC.

I am definitely not saying Florida's offense will be pedestrian next year, I just don't think Tebow will be anywhere near as good. Across the board, this was a pretty down year for defenses in the SEC
