Point taken. Your argument is well made. The Weiss example shuts my mouth. The problem with that logic is that each of those situations is MUCH more stable than TN....
Georgia--They aren't getting rid of Richt so he can afford to roll the dice and "shake things up" with a "new" offensive system.
Auburn--Malzahn is as stable as they come besides Saban and Meyer right now. Plus, Muschamp had a previous stint and will be given time to implement his system.
LSU--See Georgia, but flip sides of the ball. But maybe with a little less security for the Hat.
AM--Sumlin has security and they seem to have talent on that side of the ball. Therefore, ANY improvement will be seen as a huge step forward from the last two years.
Right now Tennessee doesn't have the luxury of bringing in just anyone and rolling the dice, they need someone who "fits" and will bring philosophical continuity with some new wrinkles.
All that said, just because you bring a big name in doesn't mean they will be successful IMO (see. Charlie Weis) :hi:
Historically LWS hits more than he misses, but he does miss. Just like skeeter. Nature of the business. If Lane and Pig could make it back onto the team, so could Paulk. Hope it's true. Love good stories of redemption.
Stay with me here.
I think the longer this hire takes (past NSD) the more likely there is going to be a pretty significant offensive staff shake up.
Let's say we bring in a guy like Matt Canada (my favorite for a while now) and make him OC and QB's coach. I think it is very likely after that Azzani decides to take the CMU job and takes Mahoney with him.
Then Butch brings Debord in as the OL coach and Canada brings over his WR coach from NC St. or someone else he'd like to have on staff.
You wait till after NSD to not rattle any cages with recruiting at our school or at the school the OC is coming from.
Any thoughts that something like this could go down? Or is everyone still thinking Debord and everyone stays pat?
No doubt. I was just being sarcastic With what I said. It is my nature. Would love to have Paulk back for sure. Our RB depth would be a little better with him here.
One of my friends, a neighbor, is a friend of Mahoney's going back to his days at CMU. My friend has a business up there and comes down to east TN for down time monthly. According to him everything you hear about Mahoney being a good guy is true and that he is very much revered in the CMU community. They would love to have him back. Your theory is very much in play IMO.
I got it. lol. You have been and are one of the better posters on here in my book. I was just sort of thinking out loud. From the first vid I saw on Paulk I was intrigued with what he could do in this offense. I have been in hopes that he got derailed unfairly and would get his shot.
