And those coaches still hold a grudge against Jones and his staff for the Alex Dale / Cincy situation which I know for a fact was a University issue and totally out of CBJ's hands.

The grudge against Butch may very well be true. But the Ole Miss influence with other families doesn't necessarily involve all the coaches. I believe there is one coach on that staff that is an OM alum, and he is on defense. Rodgers played at Memphis. Just providing info.

For once, we're in agreement.

I think Jones has to exhaust the recruitment though, in state player, top talent. You have to play it out but I still focus most of my attention on retaining what we have and getting Allen in. They still have the resources this late in the game to take one last stab at getting Richmond but I don't expect much and to be just dead honest I don't give a damn at this point.

Don't think Dale and UT have anything to do with it. I believe it was the year before Butch was hired at UT. Dale committed to Cincy, and then they dropped him at the last minute and maybe even after signing day. I have no idea the reason why, and Montrell says he knows it was a school issue and not the coaches.

If it were me I would set up a Skype meeting with Drew and the coaching staff and let him explain to our guys why they should re recruit him given he has given them the run around so many times. I wouldn't waste a second trying to recruit him in person. He knows our staff and knows this campus, what's left for him to see or feel? Butch has a "special connection" with him and Drew sees him as a "father figure" yet he's trolled our Vols for months.

Business is business and you don't invest when there isn't a good chance of a decent return, and in this case we've invested a LOT and received nothing, standing around with hands in pockets.

Based on good business alone and based on his past actions I just can't see how we would keep wasting opportunities like we have with DR.

Maybe he already has explained what happened? I think it was a few weeks ago that we heard that the staff had got some calls from high profile recruits wanting into the class. Maybe Richmond was the one who reached out to the staff. That certainly lines up with those rumors, then GFW dropping the bomb in this thread, then recruiting services confirming the renewed interest. Maybe Richmond already has explained his actions and the staff is fine with it?

I agree that he cannot be trusted at his word but he was evaluated to be the best tackle on our board. I think that's safe to assume or at least assume that he is really high on the board. Why not exhaust his recruitment and make sure you cannot land him when we don't have that much more work to do to put a ribbon on this class.

Recruits go all the way to campus and visit just for attention. Damn if so he earned it I guess. I disagree I think he is curious at the least.

I personally think DR is playing UT but I think CBJ has to take the high road. I think CBJ has been down this road before but still has to invest a little time to caliber recruit such as DR to see if there is any chance to flip him. We as fans would probably cut and run but we aren't coaches.

Yeah Dale didn't have anything to do with TN. It was a grayshirt issue at Cincy that the staff couldn't honor because the University told him they would not approve of it after the fact.

The appearance is that Richmond has been "playing the game," and I don't think I can argue with what some believe. However, early on, it appeared to me that Richmond really liked UT and that he was being influenced to go to OM. I am sure his Mom wants him closer, and this thread has had numerous discussions regarding Memphis private school kids and Ole Miss. As I stated several months back, the second most attended school for last year's MUS graduates was UT. It has also been publicly stated by his coach Glen Rodgers that Richmond's girlfriend goes to UT. Maybe I naive, but I just don't always think you can believe things that are out there, and we have no idea what private discussions have taken place. He very well may end up at OM, but I didn't believe that it was inevitable. JMO.

Would be icing on the top of the cake for this class.

Another solid in state prospect and maybe even Butch could change the culture in Memphis for UT.

Lots of UT fans in general at MUS as well..... Loved seeing the crowd chant "It's great to be a Tennessee Vol" while Jones was at the MUS game to see Richmomd.
