48 hours is plenty of time for Butch to hire someone else.

This is basically common sense.

If we are going to hire someone this week, it will likely be by Wednesday before Butch turns his focus to recruiting.

If we don't this week it will likely go to after NSD.
Supposedly Butch was aware Jake was leaving 48 to 72 hours before it happened. He had quite a bit of time to line up some candidates before the official announcement that Bajakian was on the way out.

And Debord was his first call and they had a sleep over. Do the math.

Rucker just said on the radio that if he had to name a favorite to land the OC job that it would be Debord. He mentioned Mike Canada as well. He said Azzanni would like a promotion of some sort. Doesn't see Jancek leaving due to what he has coming in for the next couple of years.

I don't think any of the reporters know anything for certain, including the VQ guys.

I think it looked 100% like it was DeBord based on how much time he spent in Knoxville this weekend, but now Jones is interviewing other candidates.

Maybe CBJ is interviewing other people because the backlash to DeBord has been so strong? The media, former players and fans have been questioning the wisdom of a DeBord hire.

CBJ is going to hire the person he wants, but he's a spinner and there's value in creating the perception of a thorough, conscientious search process. Then, if he ends up hiring the first person he interviewed, he can say he did his due diligence and hired the best person for the job.

I've now seen VQ and 247 mention that Debord indeed does have experience with Spread offense. They say that he installed it at Central Michigan along with Butch. Offense was not the issue at Central Michigan. Their defense was the big issue; think Sal like.

So did Lloyd Carr have strict limitations on scheme innovations? Debord ran his same prostyle offense at Michigan when he went back. I guess that could be due to personnel. I could see Carr limiting that since he and Fulmer were so alike. Cutcliffe even has more wrinkles out on his own than he did at TN.

I will caution everyone from getting excited about other candidates for 3 reasons.

With Butch there is a ton of coach speak which as it relates to staff it is an illusion.

All and I mean all the major UT reporting outlets released article's saying trust Butch and or don't get sold on sizzle and or Debord is ok. While Debord was on campus and meeting players. That's the pr machine.

LWS and love him or leave him Mueller have called it. If you've been here long enough you know post Kiffin LWS only says what is very likely to occur. He was one of the very few to sandbag on the grumors.

The idea of Hart blocking any hire Jones wanted to make is laughably absurd. There is a less than zero percent chance that that happened or will happen anytime soon. It would be one thing if Hart was a Barry Alvarez type, but he's not and to his credit he doesn't try to be. Jones is Hart's man for the foreseeable future and he clearly trusts Jones to do what needs to be done. There's no way an AD undercuts his own recently hired coach like that, especially in light of the recent strides the program has taken, academically and athletically. Something like that would drive a huge stake in their professional relationship and I can guarantee it would make Jones think a lot harder about catching the next plane out of Knoxville if another opportunity were to come up.

Hart supposedly vetoed Steele for backlash reasons. I think Debord is a random enough hire he could put his thumb on scale. Doesn't mean i absolutely think Butch couldn't get his man but stakes will be high.

Only reason Hart IMO would block a CBJ hire is if the salary was not reasonable. Otherwise Hart will let Butch hire his guy.

I personally have no reason to doubt Hart or Jones' abilities. Neither has given me reason to. Whoever ends up the OC will be the person that they feel fits the best with what is already happening here and the direction UT is already heading.

Salary won't be a sticking point. We're putting ourselves in position to contend for the East, and fixing our offensive issues is pivotal to that. If CBJ thinks DeBord is the guy, we'll pay him, probably more than most think he's worth.

In other news, Titans expected to hire Dick Lebeu in some capacity. Very good move by Coach Jizzenhut. that defense needs some good fixin

I wonder what Grantham to Raiders as DC means for Louisville. They hire Pruitt? Lol

Butch is a propoganda expert. I'm planning on it being Debord.

Hate that our three freshmen QBs won't have a position coach of its Debord, or at least not an experienced one. That's my biggest issue. I'm sure the guy can scheme and call plays OK (OK, not great like Cumbie or Norvell).

True but there were also mitigating circumstances there - Steele's D had just gotten reamed to the tune of about twice as many points as a team normally puts up in one game. You just can't make a hire like that and expect it to bring stability.

Curious to see how he does at LSU. I know a lot of people who say he was DC in waiting if smart had left Bama. That wvu game is kind of an outlier, I think he's a pretty good DC.

In the 2011 season, Steele's D at Clemson gave up 26.2 points and was ranked #68 in points allowed per game, EXCLUDING the disastrous bowl game. They also gave up 45 to Maryland, 37 to NC State and 38 to UNC. Their O bailed them out a bunch.

I am sure his image has been rehabilitated back at Bama the last couple of seasons. Maybe he can get his mojo back.

This is why I really believe he won't be our OC. We need a QB coach and there is only one spot open on the staff so unless Butch takes over QB's too, I don't think DeBord is the OC. I know LWS is reliable, but I'm not sure if he just heard that DeBord was being hired as OC or he was being hired and assumed it was OC. We will see.
