The "Hart blocked the hire" is just guesswork to explain why Debord was here already meeting with players but not hired. I think EricVol is right on the money on this. Debord was brought in to help Butch develop his list of candidates after doing a review of the status of the program, and also to possibly take a QC or position coach slot. Now Butch is out doing the actual interviews. Makes too much sense for VN to accept!

It wouldn't be the first time Hart blocked a hire. He kept Dooley from hiring Kevin Steele as DC in 2012, which led to us hiring the DC who shall not be named.

It is silly to think that Butch would not be questioned by Hart and major boosters about who would be his replacement OC after all this program has been through over the past decade. C'mon people. Butch doesn't write the checks, he receives one. Hart does the hiring based on agreement with recommendations. If I and many on here can see the glaring issues with DeBord's work history I can assure you Hart and the other big guns do as well.

I am calling for a resume archive of posters in the Recruiting Forum Football Talk thread.

Well if hart is blocking coaches he needs to go. Its the head coaches choice. He just needs to pay the guys. That's bull$#!t IMO. I understand he's there boss but he's gotta let butch make the coaching decisions

So some of yall fall to pieces when you hear it's Debord, now it's supposedly "blocked" and you're upset with boosters or Hart.

Funny.

How about we wait to see who it is before we all jump on or off the band wagon again.

Why hamstring the guy you hired to run the program? Imo salary demands is the only thing Hart should he part of with this type of hire. Not allowing a HC to hire guys he feels can do the job is how you end up needing to then hire a new HC.

The best thing about Volnation rumors are the stories created to explain why almost none of them turn out to be true. And then, the legend is born.

Good points. I did find it odd that he spent entire weekend in Knox including meeting for film sessions with the teams too playmakers. I don't think that is common practice.

A normal interview process goes like this.

-Reach out to a lot of candidates and gauge interest.
-Receive feedback of said interest.
-Go through that list of interested candidates and conduct intro interviews.
-Pick a few finalist.
-THEN bring them in and possibly have the top two or three spend a day or so on campus.
-Make final decision.
-Make offer to top candidate.
-Hope it is accepted and move on to next choice if declined.

The process hardly ever goes like this.

-Send feelers out to gauge interest
-Reach out to one candidate
-Bring him on campus to meet with entire team and analyze program and do chalk talk with top players
-Send top candidate home
-Reach out to other candidates to perform introductory interviews
-Hire first candidate that you knew you were going to hire the whole time.

So apparently, Basillio said that Hart blocked the Debord hire????

Did Lovie Smith just board a plane to Knoxville as well?

I know. Still think Hart has zero business saying no to a hire Butch wants to make, as long as money is reasonable.

This is what Basilio does everytime we have a coaching search. He calls 2-3 guys as done deals per his sources and back tracks by saying Hamilton or Hart blocked the deal or Boosters blocked it. It's also an untraceable reason because he knows aDs and Boosters aren't going to publicly call him a lying bafoon.

The Grumors were gold

This might turn out to be true.

But, as you and history suggest, it's unlikely it does. in fact, the more detailed and intricate rumors on here become (now complete with back room dealings and power upheavals) the less likely any of it was true to begin with (or at least I've observed).

See: Occams Razor.

So apparently, Basillio said that Hart blocked the Debord hire????

The sad thing about our fan base and especially the FF is that THIS will be the information that they believe to be true and rehash for years after Debord isn't hired and not the truth that he really wasn't ever the true primary candidate.

Did Tony "break" this news while eating on air and some guy heckling him in the background?

That's every show

I tried listening to Basilio a few years ago and just gave up on it. He kind of sounds like a screaming, squeaky voiced Orgeron.
