I've been on board through thick and thin. I have gone more than 15 years without missing a single game. Home road or bowl. If they laced it up, I was there. I've missed weddings, funerals, birthdays etc etc etc just to watch this team play. I'm willing to bet there are fewer than 1 or 2 other people on this board who can make such a claim. I'm here to say that if we make this hire.....it will be the straw that broke my back. I'm sick and freaking tired of crap hires like this. Look at who our peers are getting....and the best we can do is this guy. I'm serious. If this goes down....I'm done. If the program isn't more dedicated to winning that that.....I'm not going to be as dedicated at watching them.

What a breath of fresh air! I wish we had more fans capable of putting things in a healthy perspective like you do.

For those that missed it, here is De1conley's take from the recruiting forum:

"Honestly i don't know about CZA leaving but as far as recruiting goes i highly doubt it would chg much. What ppl don't know is P. Will is here not for Z but Swain. Swain found him before he blew up and he has loved UT every since. On the OC and Debord stuff. Anthony Parker is out as 1 of the quality control guys and I've heard that's what his role will be. He will assist with OL. Players and others have complained about Mahoney and he's really not got it done recruiting wise either. I'm suppose to hear from about 2 or 3 ppl tomorrow and I'll update once i get my calls."

Mike DeBord will be announced the new OC of Tennessee Vols on Monday. DeBord really impressed Butch Jones during the interview and Butch seems to like DeBord's vision for UT's offense.
Azzani will reportedly leave regardless of if he gets CMU job or not. He isnt very pleased with not getting serious consideration for the job.

Charlie Baggett is in consideration for return to Volunteer staff again.

If you want to know source of this information, wait until tomorrow afternoon when DeBord is announced and few days until other two are verified.

It's Monday. What time is this announcement?

And 06 at Michigan they were 26th in the nation in PPG and contended for a National Title. That was the year that UF "sneaked" into the title game when everyone thought OSU and UM were the two best programs in the nation. Maybe his offenses aren't remarkable statistically but they seem to post one impressive stat and that is wins.
When you have a really good defense, there is no reason to go crazy with play calling.

Not only does UT have to compete against championship winning HC's, the stakes have been raised substantially by the opposition continually upgrading their support staff (Muschamp, Chavis, Shannon). Unlikely that a crew of homeboys from MI can successfully compete against those odds.

Keep in mind that you can still watch all the games on the SEC network. You just don't have to keep investing in the program.

Maybe when Butch Jones said he was "humbled" by the calls he got about the OC position, he was being sincere.

I say that because 99% of the time people in athletics misuse the word humble. They usually mean to say flattered. Humbled implies the direct opposite of what most people are trying to say.

Well, maybe he really meant humbled. Humbled meaning that literally no one worth a damn called so he settled for DeBord, because that would be truely humbling.

Humble: "not proud : not thinking of yourself as better than other people"

As in, really impressed by the quality of people interested in the job. As in, "We're not too good for the people who want the job." As in, "Man, those are some quality OCs lining up to express interest."

Azzani should/may be disappointed in not being selected for OC (if that is in fact the case). However I have to believe also he understands he is still very young and being on this staff at this point in time is very good for his career as well. He's a solid coach, I expect him to stay counting on Tennessee's progress which will in turn allow him to command even better opportunities in the future. At that point I expect him to leave as I am sure Butch Jones would as well. He's got another 2 years at Tennessee IMO.

Give me a freakin break.
My father-in-law was done for good when CJM was fired. Made a big speach and bought a Pitt hat. Then never missed a Tn game. Keep crying all you want but don't expect anyone to believe you won't watch.

Finding great candidates that you think weren't even in your league won't make you less proud, which is what humbling means. It would be the opposite. You would be proud of it. You would be flattered.

Completely understandable. I often feel the same way. Unfortunately, no matter how many times the administration steals from us and spits in our faces, I still can't break this desire to cheer for the team. But it's very rarely any fun.

You'll get savaged here for expressing yourself like this. Unlike those of us who live and die with Tennessee football, it's easy for the others here, the "SEC fans", to be fine with mediocrity. They know they're going to cheer for whatever SEC team is in the championship race at the end of the season anyway. They'll never understand people who would never cheer for Alabama or Auburn or Georgia and who only want excellence from UT.

As I asked another poster, if they do hire DeBord and they end up playing for an SEC championship this year or next, are you going to jump back on the bandwagon or are you a man of your word and will be done?

Basillo said that Jones might have wanted to hire DeBord but hart shot it down to avoid an upheaval from the fans and to let jones search around. Hart isn't opposed to DeBord being on the staff just not as the OC.

Or Jones told Hart to not give approval to keep things from getting weird with an old friend... Good cop bad cop style...

Mike DeBord it is . . . (for something other than OC).

This is correct, IMO. Everyone bashing Butch over Debord is going to look silly when Butch is able to get him to come in at a position coach or QC level slot. Would be a great addition to the staff in those roles. Butch is now out actually interviewing OC candidates after he talked with his mentor and got advice on who to hire.
