Chris Kyle: American hero or

Actually, I think I am the one that recognizes insults don't hurt at all...one of the reasons I don't use them. People that use them likely use them because they think they do hurt*, and are probably the type to take offense.

*Why else would they use them?

Then why are you the only one butt hurt and complaining about it?

I think you're confusing being butt hurt with being annoyed. Gnats are annoying. Being gored by a bull in the butthole would cause severe anal trauma. Thus, butt hurt. He does not get bull horns in the ass, but he very well might be annoyed by all the anti-intellectual gnats buzzing around and being obtuse and such.

Anti-intellectual gnats.....interesting....I don't know that there are any posters here that are actually stupid.....only ones that have stupid opinions....and stupid examples of "butt hurt".....that's clearly a case of "butt destruction" you described

Just cause nobody is dumber than you, doesn't mean there aren't stupid people.

See how constructive that was? Great thread. 5 stars. Good times.

Then can you understand why "some" would consider him a hero

TRUT- you are my homie. But right or wrong not every one looks at things the way you do.

You know all to well the things that go on during war. A man having your back and saving your ass is due a little gratitude.

I take no issue with the men/women in service that consider him a hero.

Personally- I bestow that on him as well, along with any and all man/woman that puts on that uniform.

I can certainly understand why some might be thankful for his actions, as I would be thankful if he saved my life. However, that does not entail that I view him as a hero.

I've had soldiers that were incredible soldiers on deployments and soldiers that I think played an instrumental role in keeping myself and the rest of the platoon safe at various times that I have later, after deployments and back in garrison, had to make recommendations that they be removed from the Army.

I think we can distinguish meriting gratitude from meriting hero-status. Sure, the shots Kyle made that did save lives, are shots certain individuals ought to be thankful for; however, that does not entail that all the shots are such, nor even that those very shots are heroic.

So in your opinion, who out of the US Military history would you consider a hero?

take his answer with a grain of salt
most of his answers are meant to spur debate

Only if you can't accept the amount of sheer objectivity he presents. I thoroughly enjoy his posts, whether or not I agree with them.

I've never seen a poster so devoid of emotional influence. It's what this forum needs. Hell, it's what most open discourse needs.

It's a legitimate question. And one that can be answered with a personal opinion. And being that it's a personal opinion, I can't (and won't) find fault with it.

Which is why I phrased the question as "who" as in a specific individual or individuals.

Sorry, on vacation and wine dulled.

I think it would be a very specific list of people who were deeply affected by certain person(s).

Think of the second Bill and Ted movie where they had personal hells. We all have personal heroes.

And what's wrong with finding the actual definition of a horrifically romanticized word?

The fact that no one will agree on it. Gets us nowhere. It's ridiculously overused, no doubt. But everyone will have their own opinion on the definition which will get us back to this page.

If you're invoking Bill and Ted in this thread, I'd suggest less wine lol
