'15 FL DE Marques Ford (FORMER UT commit)

Why are some of y'all mad? He couldve decommitted at any time. Nothing is binding or guaranteed. He'll be fine somewhere else

The Joker's speech in The Dark Knight while he is in the hospital talking to Harvey Dent comes to mind haha

So its not dirty when a kid flips on signing day? It works both ways and this is just the way it works. He will get a free education somewhere and hopefully make it to the league. Liked the kid and thought he had potential but DE is just not our highest need right now. The rb situation is borderline desperate compared to other sec teams.

I can see both sides. You don't want to start a trend of pulling offers late in process. It does appear he does this once a year to someone. It can burn bridges and is bad pub. At the same time you got to protect yourself and take really good players if they want to commit because if you tell them to wait then they commit elsewhere and you miss the Elite kids your in trouble. Coaches can either play the wait on elite guys and put their program in the hands of a kids decision or they can control the situation by recruit the heck out of everyone and your the one deciding who can join or who gets cut.

I'd rather cut kids than get left at the alter like has happened so much with the past staffs. I know it sucks for the kid but it's not like he won't get a scholly.

So if Ford goes to UF, he will just be another guy who got spurned by Tennessee only to come back and have a career day against us. It seems like everyone likes to point out recruits that we turn down.

This is one of those situations where Butch's plan backfires. He takes early commits to build momentum and then replaces some with better players.

Although this is better for our on-field product sometimes, it really stinks.

I think this kid will be a ball player and I'm pretty disappointed he wont be wearing orange.

Our coaches know our situation better than I do, so I'll leave it up to them. Hope we have an OT on the verge of commitment/flip.

I said this yesterday in another thread, I'll say it again today. Some of the posters here need a xanax prescription. The last couple of weeks going into NSD are always insane. Hate to see Ford go, especially since it doesn't seem it was his choice, but you just have to hope the staff makes the right choices. They have a firmer grasp on our needs than anyone of us. I just hope we haven't closed any doors in that region when it comes to future recruiting.

Great post!

We know .01% of what's going on, what was said when the scholarship was offered, and what was the determining factors for pulling the offer as well as what was said when it was pulled. I admit that on the surface it looks bad, but that's the point, we're only seeing the surface. You have to have faith that Butch is doing the right thing for the program.

Another great post. Let's fill this thread with good ones to get the VN trolls out

I thought I had accidentally navigated back into the FF for a minute! I don't understand this but surely Butch has a plan here- please tell me we are getting an OT maybe Sapp also- sounds like grades maybe weren't an issue as I has first hoped. Hopefully we will get some inside info on this soon now to my medicine cabinet lol!!

I guess my only question in this would be.... If we are trimming him due to class size, and knowing we have an scholly offer on the board for a long snapper. Would it not make sense to trim elsewhere? Is it possible that the coaches were weighing a risk/ reward scenario with something unknown to the general public? I support them either way, but I scratch my head a little trying to wrap by brain around this

Why would we not want a four star recruit? I just don't understand. I wish him luck.

Because Dooley is no longer our coach. Look at it from the other side, if we are truly asking him to seek other options how awesome is that. When Cecil cherry committed I couldn't wait to see him in UT orange. Now that he will be in the other ut burnt orange it sucks, but Kirkland wa an upgrade. Maybe the UT staff didn't see him as a 4-star kindof guy. Just good for thought

It sucks, but at the end of the day you got to get the best players where your needs lie. We need a RB and maybe 2 OT's. We actually have a good amount of depth at DE. I hate it for Ford, sucky situation, but CBJ did what was best for the team. Unfortunately, it just hurt a kid who wanted to be here. This happens at every big school. Recruiting is a shady business sometimes.

Saban used to forbid schollys for special teams players. Then it cost him a shot at the national title. Next year he gave a full ride to the #1 kicker in the nation

No coach, but I follow recruiting. Honesty it's an obsession... I don't like the move. I think there was a better recruit to pull the offer from...

On the bright side, look how far this program has progressed in two years under Butch. A couple of years ago he would have been our best recruit. Now we seemingly have to let him go to make room for better, more urgently needed players.
