Southern Miss Self Imposes Ban

This was posted after Coach T's interview with the NCAA. If true then the alleged violations alleged against CT in the original story were entirely bogus. Interesting quote from Volfan2012 in another thread: "Heard the NCAA got off of the subject of Prop 48 and went into academics. Seems they were scouring the entire Southern Miss program when they couldn't find anything in the Prop 48."

Jason Munz @munzly

Going on later this afternoon with @JimmyHyams up in Knoxville, then with @ESPNHomeCookin after that. I bet we talk about USM-Tyndall-NCAA.

Beat writer for USM basketball...coming on in about 15 minutes: Sports Radio WNML

Hyams: Forde said the USM self-imposed postseason ban `should be extremely damaging’ for UT coach Donnie Tyndall. `That’s strike 2,’ Forde said.

So basically they know nothing and are just speculating as well

I wonder what his basis is for those comments. The entire investigation seems to little more than a witch hunt.

In order for them to punish Tyndall for any wrongdoing they would have to prove that he had direct knowledge of the wrongdoing doing and facilitated it.

I would be surprised if they had ANY evidence that directly implicated DT. If they did it would have been leaked by now.

His basis is Morehead St. was strike one. His next stop, USM, just self imposed a post season ban. That is what he is calling strike two.

They do not have to prove he had direct knowledge. They simply need to find that he "should have known". That alone would be enough to fall into the "failure to monitor" category.

I think we will get some sort of penalty but not enough to matter.

Lol ate people saying he won't make it out of this. He will be suspended like 5-8 games and we will move on. Also love seeing all the Vandy fans change their tune from "he can't win in the SEC" to " he cheats and cheats to win". Once they see a threat they bundle together and talk about how we all live in trailers and how they will beat us in Baseball and women's bowling. :)

I hope you're right on the Tyndall front...UT doesn't compete in women's bowling and the baseball team was 2-2 versus Vandy last year, just goes to show...they aren't as bright as they claim. :)

Exactly, the interview by Jimmy Hyams with Jason Munz was just fluff. He said he worked closely with Tyndall while he was there and had no vetting on their being any problem when they were in the NIT last year. He also said there was no academic impropriety to his knowledge and he had just talked to the athletic director yesterday. He asked when it would be over and was told one month, two months, six months, he didn't know.

My thing is how can they be so stupid if they went to Vandy or have claimed to have gone to Vandy. It's surprising the differences in people based on common sense or based on "book smarts"

It can't be good for UT that Southern Miss did the self-imposed ban. That shouts that something major went wrong. It is a good move on their part though, because truth is they weren't going anywhere in the post season anyway.

If you look at the reality, it shouldn't be a big deal, but the news media will likely run with it like it is really something. Then, the NCAA will go, "Oh, yeah, we really do have a case don't we?!"

I would hope they will have level heads and do the 5 game ban that has been mentioned as a possibility. It will show how good of a coach he really is, while is gone and we struggle a bit.

Recommend you read my very first OP thread on this, "Recruiting Attack". What I said there has been shown to be happening since then.
