The Gonzaga Game...

Going into the year I would say 12-4 or maybe 11-5 would be the expectations in conference play. After watching every SEC team play numerous times this season I would say 13-3 or maybe 14-2 should be a reasonable goal. The SEC is probably the 6th best conference in America. Florida is young and should improve throughout the year as there young kids develop. South Carolina is on about the same level of SCST, at least they have Devan Downey, that's about the only thing the people in Columbia have to be entertained by. Kentucky is awful, but Billy G is probably either the 2nd or 3rd best coach in the SEC right now so I wouldn't count any of there games as an L right now. They could sneak up on some people. Arkansas should be the 2nd best team in the conference right now, but they've faild every legitimate test they've been faced with, pretty bad. It's hard to get a feel for UGA right now. I thought that now that Dennis Felton has gotten a some years of improvement there that they would finally step up into the NCAA tournamet, but unless a major improvement they'll be NIT bound suspensions and other things have deeply killed there shot. Mississippi State and Alabama, well, they're doing there usual, underachieving by a mile. Auburn is still relatively young and still on the rise and I would expect nothing out of them. Vandy isn't really that good, they've played a soft schedule and have been fortunate to make it through 4 games already this season. As much as I despise Kevin Stallings I have to give him credit for what he's done this season, but I don't think they'll stay that way for long. Andy Kennedy is still proving that he's an incredible coach. I've felt since the start of the season that the Rebels would make the Tournament and it looks to be pretty clear now that they will barring a monumental meltdown in a watered down SEC West, or SEC altoghether.

You make great points that would be much easier to digest if you threw in the ENTER key.

Obviously, some people haven't watched any basketball this season. How can anyone pick SC as a game to lose when they are sandwiched in between Ole Miss and Vandy. FL didn't do too well with their NBA players. How are they going to beat us after losing their top 6 players last year? You can't go through the SEC undefeated, but there is no way we should lose to those 2 teams.

I didn't say UT would lose to SC. I said they have a greater than 40% chance of losing it.

Vanderbilt is overrated, and the Ole Miss game is in TBA.

So, it's closer to 50/50? The Colonial Center doesn't provide enough home-court advantage to make this game a pick 'em...

South Carolina doesn't have the depth or the experience to matchup with Tennessee. Anything's possible, but Tennessee has no business losing to a team like South Carolina.

And to VIA's defense we did get blown out there last year, but I agree, there's no way that can be one of the 5 most likely games we'll lose

Just by watching UT play Xavier, it seems apparent that UT will not be nearly as awful on the road.

With this logic you're saying Tennessee is Sweet 16 at best this season based on its performance in Newark. Did you watch the UTC game earlier this year or the WKU game in Nashville? I'll hold off my reservations on calling them a great road team until after tomorrow and until they can pick up a signature road conference win.

Based on what I've seen from the rest of the conference so far, I'm not sure any road win would classify as a "signature" victory. Maybe Starkville...Maybe Lexington, reluctantly...

And, it's apples/oranges comparing last year's UT/SC matchup with this year's matchup....The Vols have a big addition in Tyler Smith, while the Gamecocks have the loss of last year's best player, Tre Kelley. I realize that no road games are guarantees in conference, but I just can't imagine a scenario in which the Vols lose to the Gamecocks this year...that would be a very, very bad loss for this team.

That is somewhat true, but I expect 6-2 7-1 at least on the road during conference play

I haven't seen the Zags play this year (will remedy that tommorrow) but from what I saw last year, I can't imagine them presenting too big of a hurdle for the Vols.

They haven't been overly impressive, but a majority of there games were without the "mushroom magician" so he'll make a big difference

It doesn't seem like too many people are giving UT a chance, why not? One thing you can't tell about this team you'll never know who will step up, but someone will step up for sure. Maybe I'm just overly optimistic.
