'15 TX ATH Ryan Newsome

Four-star wide receiver Ryan Newsome of Aledo (Texas) High School also remains in play for Tennessee, and the Vols still are among his top three, along with Texas and UCLA. Sources close to Newsome’s recruitment still believe that the Vols likely are chasing Texas with his scheduled announcement on Jan. 23 now less than two weeks away, but Tennessee continues to make him a high priority. The Vols are scheduled to send Butch Jones, offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian and wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni to Texas on Thursday for an in-home visit with Newsome.

Butch about to do work!

So a week ago PFort says he doesn't see how we will have room, now Hubbs (who works hand in hand with PFort) says we will go all in?

Yaaaass pay sites are SOOO worth it!!!

Not sure just how non-congruent the two statements are...but, recruiting definitely operates in a dynamic environment. As far as pay sites, to each his own. However, without those guys, no one would be here discussing the topic on a free site.

Add Taylor to that list. He was totally out of left field.

VQ completely missed on Taylor. They insisted up until the morning of his announcement that he was all VT while Clarke for Scout (who covers the state of VA) was saying for a good month at TN was the team to beat.

I'm a huge VQ fan but they've sort of been all over the board this year. One day they don't have room for Newsome, the next day they are going all out for him.

By the way, back to Newsome... I assume that he is NOT coming in unofficially this weekend as some on here seem to think? I've seen no mention of it on any of the other sites that he'll be visiting.

MH.. not coming at all? Or official? iirc he was OV then I read it was now an unofficial with the parents and now you have me lost in the sauce

He already took at OV to UT back in ... October was it?? I've seen some on here say he's supposed to be coming back this weekend for an Unofficial visit. But none of the premium sites seem to think he's doing so.

Newsome is scheduled to be in Knoxville this weekend with his parents. It will be an unofficial visit since he has already been on an official.

If i remember correctly, he is scheduled to announce his commitment on 1/23/15.

Oh ok.. How do you feel about our chances if the UOV doesn't take place.. Makes it seem like our main focus would be Love/Kelly/Vaughn.. I'd love Newsome in this class above the three but losing him wouldn't hurt as much if we were able to snag one of those three.. Either way i'm happy, the speed upgrade over the last two cycles has been gr8, really evident in the teams game

I would say if he shows up for an Unofficial it is a very good sign for TN, if not then I'd say it is a longshot just based on everyone saying they believe Texas is the leader.

I love Newsome, I think he's a take all day. No doubt another RB is an absolute must as well. I'm starting to think it may end up being Lewis when it is all said and done. Love seems set for Stanford and the staff doesn't seem overly high on Vaughn.

You think the staff is completly comfortable with Lewis being the 3rd back or maybe sell him on the opportunity at the position and go from there and maybe double up in the '16 class..

Yo also, what's your take on potential blueshift/grayshirt candidates any # in mind and potential suitors

Not Montrell and I'm sure he'll have an informed take on it but I guess we would look at who could even qualify for a blue shirt. Committed players with no official visits, or in home visits, probably would be in state as well.

I agree with Chad. Potential blueshirt candidates are just as he described. I could see there potentially being a couple in this class depending on how it finishes.

They may have more room than it appears if the 4-5 guys committed that are visiting elsewhere don't reaffirm right away.

Oh saul good, and all conversation is welcome DC.. but you guys I was specifically asking about who you might think be candidates for this.. I have Stewart, Bruce, and possibly Lovinggood

Greyshirt = The recruit does not enroll for the fall nor practice/play, but waits and becomes an early enrollee for the spring of the following year. That recruit is then counted for the next class. So for this cycle, a recruit would enroll for the spring of 2016 and count towards that class.

Blueshirt = The prospect cannot be a recruited player by that school, meaning no official visit, no in-home visits. They show up in the summer as a walk-on, and are put on scholarship the first day of fall camp. Or something like that. They also count towards the next class.
