Considering the way the Stanford offensive line plays that would be a great hire. If this guy is available Butch needs to give this guy a call. If nothing else we can significantly increase his salary at UGA.

So dangle his close friend out the window and if unsuccessful, tell him it was a joke?

Bloomgren would be an interesting hire since (a) Stanford's offense hasn't exactly performed lights out recently and (b) Vandy's hire of the Stanford DC hasn't really panned out. The Stanford OL, however, has not been the problem and Stanford has produced some good offenses in the past. But, Stanford, under Harbaugh and under Shaw, has really been a defensive program with a clock eating, game managing offense that does just enough to win.

We need all the help we can get on the OL. I am not sold on our performance in a bowl game against a team that could care less about being there.

I don't necessarily disagree with those not on board with Mahoney...but the important absence, in his league of detractors is Butch...he believes in the guy...I'm not a chess player, so what is it called when you offer up your bishop and end up losing your king? Is that what you're asking Butch to do? Dangle his bishop? :pinch:

This. Stanford is a throwback. They had to introduce a speed guy in Christian McCaffrey to add a wrinkle for some decent offense. Maybe they think it will work like Bama at UGA if this is happening. Can't see much to anguish over if true. Especially with our D-line and LBs of the future.

Good post, Butchna. I don't see Mahoney as all that great either. But if he improves as the whole staff improves through the years ahead, then that will be fine. If Butch made the call on who plays and where as has been suggested, that could be why we saw what we saw this season. That is not on Mahoney IMO. True freshmen starting side by side and guys playing out of position in the SEC is not a recipe for immediate success. I doubt that was Mahoney's call.

On this staff Mahoney is a pawn.

You are correct. You need to learn Chess.

Cool!...you can be my Kasparov...what's the chess equivalent to throwing a coaching lifetime of loyalty and service ( your whole board) away for Pat Allen? (One move)

Richt is like Butch, he would never use negative recruiting. We all know that.

Rumor has it around Athens he has 3 years to make it to Atlanta. Not necessarily win but make it to Atlanta or he's gone. I can see it with all his staff getting 3 year contracts

3 year contracts are fairly standard in college football with the way position coaches and coordinators leave for new positions. Not sure that's enough evidence Richt is on any sort of hot seat. UGA wasn't relevant after Vince Dooley and before Richt. So the higher ups may not be so quick to get rid of Richt because he continues to win 9-10 games a year.

I'm hearing rumors that Bloomgren might be the next OC at UGA...

I have as well. From all I heard Mcgarity said ok we will pay money to get who u want and in 3 years if u don't produce enough to make to sec championship your gone. Mcgarity did not want to pay all of this money.so I agree it's all on Richt or he is gone
