Duke Crews...

If Crews has a cardiomyopathy as suggested in the above posts, no cardiologist in his right mind would clear him to return to playing, especially in view of the Reggie Lewis tragedy several years ago.

There is a push by many sports medicine physicians to require all stenous sports athletes, high school and college, to be required to have an echocardiogram before participating.

If it is just a slight case, he may be ok but I would agree with you. No cardiologists will clear him at all. To much risk, and liability.

so everything depends on the severity of his condition at this point? if it's mild, then meds will help and he can play...but if it requires surgery he's likely done playing bball?

He probably wont be cleared to play no matter what. To much risk. There isnt a doctor alive that will clear him for the liability reasons. If he is cleared to play I will be VERY suprised.

Yeah that's definately worth it.

I'd rather have him play for for my enjoyment than keep Duke Crews out of a life threatening situation.

So is it one of those deals where the doctor will say one of the following?:

1. Your case is mild, and you probably could play, but I don't advise it, because it's still a serious condition.

or

2. Your case is serious, and playing could kill you. Under no circumstances should you play.

WE could form an intelligence agency with all the "connections" on this board.

my connections to the bball team spend every day with the team(i.e. managers). they haven't told me anything that hasn't happened or been true yet, so I tend to believe them more than someone's cousin who is friend's with a girl that is dating a coach's son, etc.

House would have already cured Crews and told TIWIH what an imbecile he is.

...then he would have capped the day off with a couple of Vicodin, some bourbon, and perhaps a hooker or two.

Ah, House. Gotta love him.

Anyway, if Crews doesn't come back, it'll be like the Major Wingate situation last year - there will be certain times that we miss him, sure, but overall, probably not a major effect.

Well if Wingate's absence wasn't that major, was it a Minor Major Wingate Situation?

"Yeah man ... a few years ago I spent 6 months in a Major Wingate Situation ... when the smoke cleared, I woke up in pajama bottoms with 3 new child support payments..."

Sounds like Crews is done if it is an enlarged heart. That's too bad, UT needed his size.
