If they are so hard up, they have no business smoking or drinking. If they WANT to get out of the gutter, they need to learn how to spend money in a meaningful way. The fact that you even asked this kind of question shows that you... as a TEACHER... are a huge part of the problem. Again, sound mind. I don't consider those who are borderline retarded to meet that criteria. However I have worked with some who were able to hold a job and make a decent living

You're telling people they can't have a cig or a drink? Now you're sound like the socialist. These people have horrible lives. If they chose to use legal or even illegal drugs on occasion to escape their horrible reality, then so be it.

Work out the math on how much a regular investment that $5/pack would be worth to someone over a 10 year period. If they are as desperate as you say, and they WANT to get out of the situation... smoking legal cigs and weed/getting drunk every night will not help them. The cycle will continue. But I get it. You're fine with that because Obola will steal from me to "help" them out.

I would honestly love to see the statistics, because I imagine we would find that the vast majority of those on financial assistance fall well below average in intelligence.

Of course I know some people abuse the program. And I have no problem with greater measures being taken to prevent that, to include lowering assistanxe rates to where they are below what you'd make working minimum wage (no one should turn down a job because it pays less than welfare).

But you keep saying you are not considering these people and that you're only talking about capable adults.

Am I misunderstanding your stance? I thought you stated the government should not be providing assitance at all? Yet are you not saying they should provide assistance to those who mentally disabled?

I agree that anything can be done in excess. But I coulsnt support telling someone they can't have a drink or a smoke. They are still citizens. And they have ****ty lives. If they need to escape on occasion, so be it.

There are those who can't adequately provide for themselves because of mental or physical limitations. I am fine with that small percentage being provided assistance. There's a big difference in being uneducated and being in the 70-80 range
