'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

Depth isn't created by one class, thats where people are misinformed. Saban's first class had 16 out of 32 leave the program. More than 8 ( I stopped counting) left after one year. 2 of those transfers were 5 stars along with 11 4 stars. Only 3 transfers were 3 star or lower

I think I realize that. Depth isn't helped by the loss of players either. I don't consider a SO Hendrix as ideal, quality depth. But I do consider a SO Hendrix over a FR Butcher as better depth and a combo of both would be even nicer.

No I meant with all this arguing about players leaving?

That it's not ideal from a depth standpoint. Everyone complained last year we were so young and lacked any sort of depth. Now they say we're fine when we're losing guys (hindering the depth process) and replacing them with FR (we're young again). It's a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point.

I think the attrition is relatively too small to really affect our depth. While your heart may be in the right place you are taking a few guys and making it sound cataclysmic. We still have a large roster and depth will still be improved next year. Its gonna be ok.

Where's de1conley at in wake of his decision looming? Especially with amadi to lsu

He's been MIA for a few weeks in these threads. Makes me think that around that same time is when Amadi and Phillips became a done deal to LSU.

I hope you put this in the other threads where people are panicking about the players leaving. It sucks but happens when you are rebuilding. Especially the first couple of years.

Scott, next year would've gotten very minimal playing time once again, with Hurd and Kamara getting the bulk of the carries. Not a big loss at all there. He would've gotten reserve carries for most of his career here. Helm and Hendrix are the only question marks.

What does our depth chart look like at DE next year look like? This is why we need someone like Phillips.

You just don't seem to understand that we could not keep them all. Depth will come but it doesn't come from a giant class who were competing for a 3-4 yr starting job.

Back to Phillips - I think the Vols will land him and don't put much into Ugo going to LSU.

@DaveFoster17: Ugo Amadi on Kyle Phillips :"I was serious before he left ... but I don't know how they've brain washed his mind. I can only do so much."

How suspicious. Wonder what this even means. Alotta possibilities without context. Maybe a friend picked Chipotle over Moes.

This all day. People were surprised that we could sign a class of 32, and now they can't believe that we are losing some of them. Just treat it like a class of 28. It's not like we lost the players all at one position. We need depth, but it also needs to be spread out some.

Surprised he even had UT as one of his choices based on that quote. Sounds like he doesn't even like the Vols. Maybe he's bitter about not taking him earlier.

I think that quote was about Ole Miss. It doesn't make much sense for him to say that about a school in his final two today. It makes more sense that its about the school he decommited from and eliminated

Maybe that's why he had the hat up there in the first place. Just driving the nail in. Its cool, when he's riding pine and watching the real honey badger from his couch, he'll know what he missed out on. Jmo.

Ah, that would make a lot more sense. I didn't think Ole Miss was a serious contender for Phillips.

We'll have 85 next year. Is that any more than we had this year? Is it anymore than we'll ever have in a given year? No.

I don't think it's catastrophic but I don't think its worthy of nonchalantness either.

How is depth improved when you're replacing a SO or JR with game experience with a true FR? Honest question, I'd love to hear the answer. I haven't seen anyone say why it's better other than saying the true FR who've never suited up are better than what we have. Which is a complete unknown at this point.

I do understand that kids transfer, it's just usually not so many, so early in a career. Most give it 2-3 years and realize I haven't played and I'm not going to.

So in your mind losing 5 DE's in a year is no big deal?

Just depends on the type of players you bring in. Todd Kelly jr was a better backup than Lemond Johnson. Barnett was a better player than Vereen. Malone was better than Jenkins. Butch is bringing in quality to make immediate impacts. Oline, Dline, and LB is where experience usually trumps talent.

Henderson(grades), Miller(pine rider) and Hendrix, who else? DE is also probably where we have the most on our roster. This discussion is boring now. Im out. :hi:
