The other teams that previously were recruiting Darrin Kirkland Jr. haven’t backed off since he announced his commitment to Tennessee on Dec. 15.

As far as he’s concerned, though, his recruitment is over.

The Top247 senior linebacker from Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis said Texas, Arkansas and Michigan are among the other teams that have continued pursuing him over the past two weeks, but his commitment to the Vols remains “100-percent solid.”

Kirkland is scheduled to arrive at Tennessee on Jan. 4 — the day after he plays in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl — to join the Vols as an early enrollee. He will attend his first spring-semester classes Jan. 7.

“I’m flying out right after this, so I’m excited to get there and work,” he said after arriving in San Antonio for the national all-star game. “Crazy to think about, but I’m excited for a new challenge. I’m just looking forward to being in Rocky Top and experiencing everything Tennessee has to offer for me.”

Kirkland is smart enough to know playing MLB behind Kmac and Shy will make him more of a beast than he could ever imagine. Teeing off will have a whole new definition.

Nah, there are more ignorant rules in there. Hell I remember UConn basketball getting punished for a rule that wasn't even in place when the violation occurred.

Kirkland weighed in around 222 pounds yesterday. He said he's dunning really well right now because of that, and he looks good during walk-throughs. Theyre not tackling right now, but he's covering plenty of ground in the middle of the West defense.

From TOS reporter Anna Hickey at the AA game: Spoke with 4-star MLB Darrin Kirkland, a former Michigan commit, today at Army practice. Asked him if Harbaugh to Michigan will have any impact on him, and he simply responded "NO."

Doesn't mean anything obviously but Big Will on Basilio saying that "someone" told him that Kirkland is having second thoughts. Probably not even worth the post, but thought I would mention.
