You don't have a clue yourself, so what the hell are you talking about? When you hear recruits talk about the specifics of their recruitment, 9 times out of 10 you will hear them mention they "stay in touch with...".....wait for it....wait for it............their position coach.
Just this past week, I heard Kirkland talk about him staying in touch with Coach Thig (even though other coaches had some level of involvement). Bussey talked about him staying in touch with....surprise, surprise....Coach Gillespe.
Think about it for a moment. If you are a position coach, it is largely YOUR responsibility above all others to ensure your position group succeeds. If someone else is doing all the shopping for your groceries, that is not going to help you keep your job when THEY do a piz-poor job of bringing in players for you to coach.
As a position coach it is imperative that you get the most talent possible at your position, because the more talent you bring in, the more competent you look as a position coach. If other groups are pulling in mostly 4-5* players and you have to subsist on 3*s, it's going to show up on Saturday's and ultimately you are responsible for the results.
You will fall on the sword before the HC does.
I never understand why posters here use the exception rather than the norm to make an argument. Trust me, it is rarely a positive when a freshman starts on the o line.
It CANNOT be any worse than this past year. I understand players are going to miss on assignments but damn is it asking too much to actually get a hand on a Dlineman before he blows by you? I do believe Blair will be the starter.
And some use the exception because there are exceptions every year. Wasn't Cam Robinson the starter at LT at Bama as well with another true freshman as his backup at LT? Roderick Johnson at FSU and Mason Cole at Michigan as well.
Nobody will argue that we have issues on the oline. My point is simply this, if Allen ends up starting at UT next year it will not be because he is a stud offensive lineman. It will be because the cupboard is relatively bare and we aren't able to fill the position with an upper classman that has had time to develop into a college level player. IE- not a positive situation. And you are still using exceptions rather than what is the norm and would be preferred by college programs. It just is what it is though.
Exceptions? Yes but that doesn't mean Allen cannot be one of those exceptions. I named four true freshmen starting at LT at major programs, so while it's not exactly common, it's also not the rarity that you suggest. The cupboard isn't exactly bare at programs like Bama and FSU.
