'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

I hope that we get Phillips if he wants to be a Vol. However, I think that some of us need to get a little perspective here.

First, CBJ & company have done some amazing things in recruiting when you consider all that has taken place over the past 5+ years. This year's class will be great & help lead to more wins in the near future.

Second, I've read posts in this thread about losing Phillips. How can the Vols lose what they never had?

Last but not least, Peyton was a senior at UT when I was a freshman. When he left I thought that the Vols would really struggle. I soon learned that there's more to a championship caliber team than one player.....or one recruit...no matter how good they may be.

Thanks & GBO!! 🍊🍊🍊 VFL!!

Looking like Ugo, Phillips, Jackson, and Martin to LSU is a real possibility atm.

If it plays out like this it will be a damned shame -- Butch needs to win these battles. Losing Phillips will hurt. Not saying he isn't replaceable but I don't think there's another guy on our board who would be as much as an immediate impact guy as Phillips would. Taylor is close, but I think Phillips will be special.

I don't see how Phillips would be an immediate impact player at all. Martin yes... Not Phillips though!

"Potential to be" I guess. Very fast and strong motor, one of the VQ guys (not sure if it was Ritzman or not) always talked about his speed off the edge and having to tell him to go half speed in drills so OL could learn.

Call me a debbie downer but rarely do highly rated prospects from the state of Tennessee make an immediate impact for whatever reason so a highly rated prospect from another state like Georgia would be a safer bet imho

Yeah Barnett outta Brentwood was a total bust this year, huh?

In addition to Taylor, Martin and Walker, IMO. And of the guys already committed, Kamara and McKenzie. In short, Phillips, while a good prospect, is not going to make or break this class.

We gotta lock the state back down.. Talent in TN has came along especially in the mid state..

Amadi nor Phillips will make or break this class. Some think losing these guys is program changing. Butch cannot get the states best prospects EVERY year.

Don't think this it necessarily true plus Phillips wouldn't have to make an immediate impact as a true Freshman.

Bama has landed more 5 stars from LA and GA in the past five years than Auburn has from the state of Alabama. Like I said, he basically takes what he wants.

According to 247, in 2014 Auburn landed 7 out of the top 20 in the state of AL.

Alabama landed 6 out of the top 20.

Yes Saban usually gets what he wants. But not every single year. That's my point.

This year is just an odd year with the in state recruits a lot of these kids didnt grow up vol fans like last years group. Phillips grew up on Vandy with his mom, Jefferson isn't from here, Martin isn't from here, Amadi I don't know about but we pissed him off in spring, Ordway would have been a Vol if he had committable offer, Jackson Harris would have committed if we offered.
