'15 JUCO CB Justin Martin (UT Signee 2/4/15)

I think the info Woody has is true. I was at an charity event in Gallatin that Butch Jones came to last summer. Martins mom was part of the staff that was catering the event. She told me who her son was. She was kind of suprised I knew who he was. She told me that he is coming to UT, and that he just had to finish up juco. It seems that something LSU has told him has changed his plans. I hope we can get him as I think he will be a good one.

Why does it have to be true? So Woody sits on Martin being a silent commit and reveals to us that he silently decommitted today? It doesn't make any sense. Except for us landing another commit that Woody thought was going elsewhere. Woodrow has had a horseshoe up his ass when it comes to UT for quite sometime now. And he has been wrong more times than I care to remember. Said Ole Miss was in the lead for Amadi and Phillips a couple of weeks ago only for Ole Miss to be eliminated. Swore Malone was Clemson bound last year. And that's just a couple of recent examples off of the top of my head. Even if he is right on this one, Woody's track record wouldn't suggest to put a lot of stock into anything that he says.

I'm not trying to be that guy, but Martin is the type of guy that comes in and makes you a much better team. Until we can land these guys we will be no better than a 9-10 win team. The reason why? Because when we don't land them, our competition does. Martin is the type of guy you just got to land. LSU is loaded, and they are about to be even more loaded. Our CB and OT depth is a problem right now. No sugar coating it. We go all out on Richmond and Martin, both TN leans at one point, and both will end up with another SEC team...

Go all out on Martin? Really? I see your point on Richmond, but Martin is not the only CB that we recruited or still recruiting. I am really not concerned. The way our staff recruits, there are really no "must have" recruits anymore. Our staff gets good players at all positions. Just a matter of players wanting to play at UT. We will be ok, and our defense will be sick in a year or two.

Yea, we went all out for Martin. We have one really good CB committed to us right now, and Miller, the other CB prospect, is a toss up on whether he will/won't be here come NSD. As it stands, if Miller left, we'd have 1 CB for the 2015 class. As we speak, we have three true CBs currently on our roster for next year. We also have two nickel CBs. Of those five, 3 will be sophomores and two will be juniors. Our two nickel CBs have never started a game here, and our backup CB in Foreman hasn't played much either. So, to say the least, Martin was a must get. He walks on campus and starts.

Amadi may not be as dynamic as Martin and may not start right away, but Amadi and Martin aren't both going to LSU. Someone said that LSU has 2 sophomore CB's, 2 already committed, and a third that will. Martin and Amadi would make 5. I don't see that happening. We also have Osbourne already committed for 2016. Sure, coaches will make mistakes, but as I previously said, they will get good players. They aren't going to leave a position open.

A LSU poster was on here the other day saying that he had heard that LSU will take Ugo to get Phillips. They have room for both. LSU will lose 3-4 DBs this year to graduation/going pro. If this happens, then what do we do? It's kind of like the LT recruiting. Sure, Jone/Hall can play T, but LT? IDK about that. Sanders/Kendrick played T in high school, yet our staff decided to play a true freshman C in Thomas over them. Who knows what Mahoney and this staff are thinking. What I do know is, the LT/S/CB recruiting are the big areas to watch going forward. All other positions have been well accounted for.

There is only one class with two five star d tackels that will make corner backs look better due to their rush and that is UT

Where did u go? I grew up on the hill in Clinton... So I wasn't much of a neck.. I just didn't want to play for such a terrible team.

If Woody's claims are true then this kid doesn't sound like he fits the mold of what Butch is trying to build here, no matter how talented. I'm not judging the kid because I take anything Woody says with a grain of salt, but if true, the kid has one agenda. He isn't interested in team or a degree, but only getting to the NFL. That doesn't usually make for very good team chemistry or a leader. JMO

If LSU lands Jackson, Amadi, Phillips, and Martin tho.. FTW.

I will be floored if they land all 4 of them; however, if all of the news reported by Woody is true with Martin, then it really almost makes sense, when you consider Amadi's stance on taking his OV to LSU. He just decommitted from Ole Miss last weekend and now this news comes out about Martin. Amadi is adamant after decommitting that he will take the OV to LSU before committing, although that will be after school starts and he will be behind in his classes for spring. I think we will know Jan 3rd where they all are going...if Phillips announces UT, then that's where they end up (minus Jackson). Strange recruitments no doubt.

Not sure if all 4 go together as a package deal, but of the list the most important is Martin. He could come in and start immediately. Phillips is best long term prospect. Amadi would be 2-3 years from contributing and Jackson would have been depth on OL in 2 years.

I don't believe that much in silent commits. I think they are strong leans, I would guess if Butch landed Martin we are done at CB and if Martin was a silent/Sure thing we wouldn't have been pursuing other CBs.

I am really wondering if LSU has an easier path for Martin to simply get in school versus UT.

Seems like worst case scenario our cb class is Abernathy and Miller. I can roll with that.

If Martin don't want to play on a NC team from his home state he should go to LSU.

This is not his home state. He's from Ga only lived here a yr or so. His mom has moved bk to Ga and that's where he is also. They came here because he wasn't doing sonwell in Ga in school. So mom thought chg of environment would help and it did.

Unbelievable.

I wish Chavis would've given this type of effort in recruiting when he was here.

Chavis take alot of grief from those who really have no idea. What they do not understand is that Chavis was never asked by Fulmer to go on the road. The staff is limited on the number of coaches that can go on the road at one time. Someone has to stay behind and manage things on campus. That someone was generally John Chavis.

The reason is that while Chavis was an outstanding coach and coordinator, his personality did not lend itself to being a good in-home recruiter. But, when they get kids on campus and in meetings, that is where Chavis shines. Kids wanted to play for the man and it shows in the level of success he has experienced in every job he has ever had. Again, despite the fact that he has so many critics.

In case you didn't realize it all kids goal is the NFL. There are very few concerned about a degree. The team stuff you're claiming is a big reach so relax.
