I understand we need quality depth at all positions, but if Helm bolts it doesn't bother me much at all. Wolf is a stud and I thought Ellis played very well toward the end of the season. Best of luck to him if he leaves, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Ellis is gone isn't he? We can't be losing multiple 4* freshmen if we're going to compete for championships. Hopefully it's not true, Scott is the only one whose leaving wouldn't be a big loss.

I know. He played in every game. Strange indeed.

If I had to guess, with him being more of a pass catching TE, and very few passes getting thrown his way could be a possible reason. If you're going to try and sign pass catching play makers at TE, obviously they are going to want to see the ball in the air in their general direction. JMO

Rivals stats shows Helm only played in 5 games and had 6 total catches for 38 yards.

We seemed to almost stop throwing to our TEs over the last half of the season, from what I saw (or didn't see!). Why? Probably because we needed them to help block given how weak our OL was.

Ellis is a RS JR. He could be gone I suppose if he was ready to move on. He could play as a SR if he wanted to return.

The quick seam route to the TE IMO is just about always there. Why they put that one in the back of the play book I'll never understand.

"Be patient. We're just trying to figure out how to get the TE seam route to go horizontal and be a seam down the line of scrimmage. I'm a genius. An innovator. Hash-tag-pro-style."

I totally agree. We're recruiting really well. Our class last year was really strong all the way through. Every single player made it in. Not every player can possibly pan out. If you take 30+ players, you're doing pretty good if 20-25 of those players end up being really good. I think we're hovering above that mark at this point.

I think Butch likes to take large classes knowing that not everybody will stick. It gives him wiggle room going into the next class where he can do it all over again.

All 3 players being mentioned as potentially leaving have shown flashes of being able to contribute, but none have looked like future stars. They are all being blocked by other players in the same class at the same position who are clearly better.

That being said, I hope they all stick around and work their way into contributors. But I'm not stressing about losing freshmen who couldn't get on the field in a year where freshmen had every opportunity to play.

If Scott, Hendrix, Helm, Payne, and Henderson all end up leaving and being gone for good, that's five 4* players plus Paulk (who might be coming back?)

If I were a negavol, I could point out that one of the issues we had with Kiffin and Dooley were that their classes had so many that left or didn't pan out. Frustrating when you're a team that sorely needs to build quality depth.

Edit: Sawyers too. There was talk of him earlier in the year. I guess he is ok now maybe? But that would make six 4*s

But these are our supposed "upgrades" that are leaving. Hahaha

It is very uncommon for so many kids to be lost after less than 1 year. Most at least give it a couple years in the program before bailing. Signing big classes looks good on NSD. Of course you have to keep them in the program long enough to benefit from signing them. If you're always having to cycle in new guys to replace the guys you just signed, development and getting away from "but we are young" will be tough.
