Moving this here bc I didn't think it fit the bussey thread but felt it was worth discussing

It might not be the popular opinion, but this might be an SEC learning curve for the coaches. At CM and cincy, you don't have to worry much about guys feeling like they need all star treatment. Maybe a little, but they know they're at a 2nd rate program. In the SEC, you have to deal with guys who feel like they are an NFL lock as soon as they graduate high school.

There has to be a fine line between the "workmen like" mentality Butch talks about and working with some divas.

You can't let the prisoners run the jail (uga) because they will never have the discipline to pull through in the big games, but you can't be so hard nosed that the prime time ego that comes with prime time talent won't play for you.

Might be totally wrong on this but Saban has always seemed to set a hard line and doesn't have any problem recruiting top talent. I know Butch ain't at his level but you gotta start somewhere. Think you gotta tolerate the divas in the pros because it's hard to replace talent but if you can recruit at a high level you can be a little more hard nose with new players coming in every year.

I'm a very opinionated 35. :zeitung_lesen:

I find that hard to believe LV. I've known many numbers people in my lifetime and the youngest one I ever met was 47 years old. I don't think you can legally claim to be a numbers expert unless you have at least 40 years experience in dealing with numbers. That's just my opinion though.
:)

That makes sense. And i guess preston williams will be the litmus test. :)

I find sports psychology pretty fascinating, and if any one has any credentials in the area i would love to hear your opinion

Just returned from the Bryce Love thread to see if there was an update. Low and behold Leb was causing trouble in that thread as well. :)

Just noticed you're from Newnan...one of my best friends growing up owns a gym down there, MOAB Fighting Concepts. I go down there to train and I like the area...thought about moving down there at some point.

Yes sir! I'm originally from TN, but have lived here almost 7 years. We love the area! If you decide to move here or are ever down this way, let me know on here. Always nice to meet a Vol fan in this area. We are represented fairly well. I'm constantly wearing my orange. My little girl frequently asks me, "Daddy, why do you always wear Tennessee?" Cuz I love my Vols, baby girl! :)

Newnan,Georgia? This is the second time someone has mentioned this place in the last month. I was at a conference and a person was from there and recommended it and said if you ever head down you should look at that place. It is an up and coming town or what do you think or have any thoughts on it?

Atlanta putting no pressure on AR. Gruden cracks me up, he said " I think the Falcons are counting to 5 Mississippi before they come across the LOS"

My 20s vols ruled 94-03. My 30s they were progressively worse and worse 04-2013. As a matter of fact haven't beaten Florida since the year I turned 30. So now I'm 40, 2014 and beyond will be great again. Book it.

Yes. It is up and coming...I call it "ATL continuing to move south". It's a very nice town. 45 mins from downtown ATL. 30 mins from Peachtree City. Decent football down here. Newnan had a very down year, which is uncharacteristic for them.

Christ.... When you put it like that it's even more depressing. I was a sophomore in high school the last time we beat Florida. Smdh.

I'll jump in here.

The fact is, this happens everywhere... especially with the freshmen. Many reasons, but here is the general progressions.

1. First 18 years, live at home with parents and friends.
2. HS football, big fish in a small pond. Out "talent" most players due to natural ability. In many cases, don't need to push yourself to the limits in the weight room, practice or games.
3. Catered to as a king as a recruit, because that is the only way you get a recruit.

Enter college football:

1. For the first time in your life, you are away from your family and everyone that you know. The world is now a bigger place.
2. Small fish in a big pond. Now, most are bigger, faster and stronger. That natural ability only carries you so far.
3. What was once "fun" is now really, really hard work. The coaches and SC staff push you to your limits, because that is the only way to build a college football program. It tests your physical, emotional, and mental limits. You either get stronger, or flounder.
4. The collective toll of a college class schedule, move away from friends and family, disappointment in self and beginning to doubt one's own abilities, discouragement at place on the depth chart, physical pain, mental blocks, and the emotions that come with all of these things simply cause some players to transfer, or give up football all together.

Every recruiting class has attrition. It is highly likely that at least 2 will leave after every freshman year. We just "feel" the hit of it more because we are recruiting at such a higher level, and the fan's "savior" mentality of the incoming freshmen is even higher than usual.

The coaches are not necessarily doing anything wrong.

I don't believe they are. But I do think they'll have to get used to the personalities that come along with some big time guys. I could see other coaches trying to label this staff as turned off to talent because some of the incoming kids might be iffy to the hard work.

I may be blowing it WAY out of proportion... Just some thoughts here.

Yea Aug 03 to Dec 07, good time to be there. Last season was our last time going undefeated in Neyland.

You were about same time as me too. August 04 through May 08. My senior year football and men's basketball went undefeated at home.
