At UT, freshmen go from cradle to raves (Tennessean)

I love the fact that a true freshman plays that well and everyone wants to fire his position coach.

Berry makes it enjoyable for me to watch our defense play again.

Past few years I was just waiting for them to blow an assignment, glad to have a momentum changer in the secondary again.

If you were waiting on someone to blow an assignment, you should have watched that 3rd and 17 touchdown in the sec championship game. Blown coverage by Berry.

I think a lot of people might remember that Hefney played decent as a freshman (albeit he was CB then) and played awful as a senior.

I seem to recall at least two TD passes thrown directly over his head.

Don't get me wrong - the kid played great - and at times had me in awe. But let's not get carried away.

He made me look like a fortune teller during the KY game. I leaned over to a guy that was next to me when we were in danger of losing during that game and said 'Berry is gonna intercept this play. Don't worry." And he did! :dance2:

Bill Bates got run over by Hershel Walker, doesn't mean he wasn't a great defensive player.

Getting burned on a few plays is an acceptable trade-off for the intensity he plays with.

I am just glad to have someone who doesn't shy away from contact or the ball on D. He is always looking for both, the sign of a great player in the making in my opinion.

Berry scared me a couple times in that SECCG when he went in with his dome down. I was at the Air Force game and saw Inky slam into the WR.

After I saw that live and in person I cringe anytime I see a ball in the air and a DB coming in for that huge hit.

It depends on the plays. But in general I agree.

It does depend on the plays. I hope the next time he is beat it wont be the difference in the game.

There are 2 halves to every game, but I think the difference in the game where the picks in the 4th quarter, not the TD allowed in the first half.

He did have some blown assignments this year but he will be a legend before its over. One great freshmen does not a position coach make.

Our defense plays its best on 1st and 2nd down. With a solid secondary, Fulmer will place a more aggressive 3rd down package into Chavis's system next year.

I understand that experience will allow the defense to do more things, but what makes you think Chavis needs somebody to tell him that?
