I can't imagine what it must be like being a religious minority in that country, when your leader is basically proclaiming you a Christian nation and the rest of you just be damned. No wonder Chechens blow themselves up so much over there.

According to wiki, 6.5% of Russia is Muslim, compared to 0.8% in U.S.

I thought it was a little higher than that. Nearly 10%. Nonetheless, the percentage of Muslims in Russia is forecast to climb steeply over the next 20-30 years.

Ah, so the people of the Caucasus and the Uralic and Central Asian Russian republics aren't "Russian," huh? I was under the impression that there was no other nation than Russia and that all others, specifically Ukraine, were just fabrications on Russian land.

I thought it has been generally accepted that Russia, because of its large land mass, has many ethnicities on it's southern and eastern fringes.
