I would rather it be Butch's prerogative. It's always alarming when a HC doesn't see the weak link in the staff while it's obvious to everyone else imo.

I didn't really mean forced to by Hart. Pretty much meant forced to in his own mind.

Lol. We have the most bowl eligible teams, the most ranked teams, and UT would give FSU a run, much less everyone else not named Vandy and UK. Sit down Desmond.

I doubt UT would give FSU a run, but if FSU were in the SEC West, they'd be unranked and happy to have sneaked into a lower tier bowl.

Ignore me while I vent...:)

I was born in Michigan and right now I hate the whole flipping state of Michigan. Leave Butch Jones alone and hire a dang coach already!!

I have several friends from Michigan and all of them say there's no way they could be forced to leave east Tenessee and be made to move back to Michigan. They all think Tennessee is "Paradise"!

What does everyone do for sports radio in knoxville now that TSR went down and swain moved to the mornings?

Are my only choices in the afternoon will west or the guys on basilio?

Hubbs just said Butch's new contract will put him around $3.3 million per year with the ability to increase that to $3.5 or $3.6 million depending on performance-based bonuses.

So a 10% bump with another 10% triggered by performance. Thanks for the info!

I will be very happy if we can keep this staff intact for another year. I don't see any way that it happens heading into year 4 if we have success in 2015. But three solid years of continuity will be great for building a foundation for the team.

Or Butch doesn't make emotional decisions. He has coached with these guys for years. If he didn't believe in them he wouldnt take them with him everywhere he goes.

I agree awful and alarming year for Mahoney and he isn't good at recruiting at least to my public view. However just last year people were screaming for Jancek as the weak link and now he is considered a strength. The jimmy and joes have major impact and Mahoney wasn't given a fair deck of cards this year.

After replacing the entire OL for this season while dealing with multiple injuries, let's wait and see how they play next year before axing the OL coach. The OL's play hinges a lot on continuity and snaps together. They didn't get any of that last year, in spring camp, fall camp, or even throughout this season because of injuries.

I'd bet 9 out of 10 times you piece together an OL at any other school with young and inexperienced guys and after 12 games of reps, they would look better to just about anyone. Now why has that not happened at Tennessee? Why do these young OL guys look the same or worse today than they did in Aug? For me the answer is simple. "Just give him another year" usually does not really change the outcome IMO.

Agreed, if you're gonna make that argument you have to at least say Big 12 they have a chance for 2 teams in the playoffs at least... But ACC? What is he smoking. I'd say:

1 sec
2 big 12
3 PAC 12
4 acc
5 big ten

And you could convince me on flipping 2-3 or 4-5.

I might make an argument the Big12 is ahead of the SEC this year. I can see it both ways.

2 straight years of not recruiting HS OTs named Jimmy or Joe sealed it for me on Mahoney.

Uh.ok...I thought it was pretty obvious to eyes that the SEC was the best conference.

BTW, how is your mom doing?

She's making progress but still has a ways to go to fully recover.

She was just supposed to have a colostomy reversal but it failed & she was septic..then after that she developed double pneumonia , ARDS, collapsed lung, had heart failure & a mini stroke all on top of each other which turned into a 3 week ICU & month long hospitsl stay. Was kind of a freak series of unfortunate events & they said multiple times she might not make it but by the Grace of God she's here today. Thanks for asking!

I was 3 months old when we moved and have never returned so I don't even have any memories of Michigan!

Tennessee is and always has been "Home sweet home to me!" :)

Hubbs just said Butch will get a $300,000 salary pool to be divided up between the 8 assistants.

I would do:

Strip: 75k

Thig: 75k

Jancek: 75k

Elder: 25k

ZA: 25k

Willie: 24,995

Jake: $5 footlong from subway

Mahoney:

I still think those injuries throughout the season didn't help them gel to improve as a unit. The QB can also impact the OL's numbers as well. Worley was a statue back there compared to Dobbs. Dobbs' mobility and elusiveness reduced the number of sacks he took.

9.9 out of 10 times you don't have to replace the number of snaps that UT had to replace this year on both the OL and DL. It was truly unprecedented.

I just want to see how they do with one more year of development, bowl practice, camps, etc. If they show little to no improvement between now and kickoff next year, OL coach is at fault. All JMO though.

I said I would have given CBJ 250,000. He got 300,000.

I said I would have given the staff a 10% bump. About right.

Dave Hart, job well done.

I'd still replace Mahoney.

It's the only weak link I see. It's the only thing IMO keeps this program from taking the next step. Can UT wait? Sure. I wouldn't.

JMO

All new offensive line. Best linemen had 1 ACL. Multiple injuries all throughout the line all year. Multiple freshmen at times. Freshmen TE's. Juco OT was so weak he had to redshirt.

Cue "shoulda seen improvement all year long."

Not with all that. Deff deserves another year to give it a go.

Not really improvement all year long, but at least something.

You give any inexperienced kid 1000 reps of live action on the OL and IMO there should be a night and day difference in his performance.
