Hey BB, How did you get the "Common sense is overrated" instead of "senior member"
Go to "User CP" top left...Then on the left click "Edit Your Details" then scroll to where it says "Custom User Title" and type in the box what you want it to say! You're welcome! :)

That would be a valid analogy if Butch was setting his own salary. He's not.

1. Dave Hart knows the budget better than we do. Whatever he feels Butch is worth, I'm cool with that.

2. The difference between 3.5 and 4 million is less than .5% of the yearly revenue of the athletic department, pre Butch.

3. That revenue has undoubtedly increased substantially based on ticket sales and the SEC Network, and we have finished paying off Dooley and Fulmer since Butch was hired. So the department should be more profitable.

4. There's a strong argument to be made that spending an additional million dollars per year (3 mil to 4 mil) to retain Jones would be prudent spending.

All that goes back to my initial point. Dave Hart gets paid to know this stuff. We don't. This whole discussion is arbitrary. It's one thing to say he deserves a raise or doesn't. He deserves an extension it doesn't. Trying to quantify what that raise or extension should be, with the information available, and acting like it will be bad if he makes more or less, is stupid.

Good points. But we still owe Dooley $2.5M, payable in monthly installments for the next two years. We have other debt service, as well. UT is not broke-- and will not be-- but the UTAD is paying the price for foolish spending.

As far as what Butch is worth, he may or may not be a good investment at $4M. Is he worth more than Gary Patterson and Jimbo Fisher? Twice as much as Mark Helfrich? They got their teams to the playoffs and we barely got to a bowl. I just think a huge bump for an unproven coach, not tied to performance, begs questions and invites concern. Others don't, and that's cool. Differences of opinions can teach us all something.

Will be interesting to see how Michigan's new coach closes on recruiting. Their scout board looks as though they think it will be the 1st week of January before a coach is in place. With the dead period being till Jan. 14th, talk about a mad scramble.

Makes a lot of sense to me anyways. Pay has to be based on results in college football. Recruiting job? Calls for a pay increase. 6-6? Not so much. 5-7 got Dools fired.

Hubbs just said Butch's new contract will put him around $3.3 million per year with the ability to increase that to $3.5 or $3.6 million depending on performance-based bonuses.

Sounds reasonable to me.

s/n: Hope Mahoney got a big raise too. :)

I was off by 50 grand huh?

If Hart thinks I am paying it, he better be ready to make some beds and clean some bathrooms. TIFWIW.

Butch is not axing Mahoney. If the OL is poor again next year, he will be forced to, IMO.

I know that seems to be the consensus of the fans, but IMO that could be too late. Another year of the OL not developing, plus very shaky recruiting and IMO it could cost us more than just 1 year.

Desmond Howard just said "the SEC isn't the best conference..I'd say the ACC is"

Oh.
Lol. We have the most bowl eligible teams, the most ranked teams, and UT would give FSU a run, much less everyone else not named Vandy and UK. Sit down Desmond.

I would rather it be Butch's prerogative. It's always alarming when a HC doesn't see the weak link in the staff while it's obvious to everyone else imo.

After replacing the entire OL for this season while dealing with multiple injuries, let's wait and see how they play next year before axing the OL coach. The OL's play hinges a lot on continuity and snaps together. They didn't get any of that last year, in spring camp, fall camp, or even throughout this season because of injuries.

Dumb. ACC is no better than 4th this year.

Agreed, if you're gonna make that argument you have to at least say Big 12 they have a chance for 2 teams in the playoffs at least... But ACC? What is he smoking. I'd say:

1 sec
2 big 12
3 PAC 12
4 acc
5 big ten

And you could convince me on flipping 2-3 or 4-5.
