Michigan search updateBy Scott Roussel on December 5, 2014

Last night and this morning I reached out to sources in the profession to attempt to understand where Michigan is with their search. The consolidated answer, from the sources I checked with, continues to be confusion.

Per sources, in the past two days Michigan has again reached out to both NFL and college coaches to gauge their interest in the position.

Some at Michigan believe that Jim Harbaugh is a viable option and are pushing Jim Hackett to wait until the NFL season is over to formally approach Harbaugh. On that end, we understand that Harbaugh’s most recent response to Michigan was along the lines of, “I’m currently under contract and can’t discuss anything until the season is over.” We understand that other NFL coaches have been discussed among the Michigan administration as well. If Michigan were to wait until January to chase Harbaugh only to see him ultimately remain in the NFL (which our sources believe he will), this prolonged search could have significant impact on the Wolverines’ ability to secure a top class in early February.

In the college ranks, per sources, Michigan did reach out to Tennessee’s administration to request approval to speak with Butch Jones. I reiterate what we have told you all along, sources have told us and continue to tell us that Butch is very happy at Tennessee and will not entertain the Michigan job. Michigan has checked sources regarding Boston College head coach Steve Addazio and there are some we have spoken with who believe Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham, who we understand has been approached by Michigan in the past, could become a target of this search. Based on our checks, we are quite certain they have looked into several other coaches as well.

Michigan is going to end up with someone like Mike Riley. The era of home run hires seems to be coming to a screeching halt.

On the most hated team by state map, I suddenly have a new fondness for New Hampshire, Maryland and Nevada. LOL at Vermont's most hated team being Albany! And, look at the number of states where the University of "State Name" is the most hated team. I'm proud that Tennessee hates the Gumps the most!

Hyams may have finally broke a story

wasn't there a 247 or VQ interview with Hart earlier this week where he said "we're giving him a raise, but he's out recruiting and we'll get to the details later."

Jimmy gonna Jimmy:snoring:

Wes Rucker backing off his statement yesterday on 104.5 right now. Said he is way down Michigans list, but may be some interest in some areas of administration

I could actually see it playing out. Here you have Hart, CBJ, and his agent at the negotiating table. Hart offers a raise of 250,000. CBJ's agent acts as though they were expecting more. Hart reaches into his pocket and pulls out a 20 and a penny. "It's all we got"!

:birgits_giggle:

They flipped a coin for the extra 100k. Butch lost.

Ignore me while I vent...:)

I was born in Michigan and right now I hate the whole flipping state of Michigan. Leave Butch Jones alone and hire a dang coach already!!

You can't help where you are born - no choice in the matter. But you chose to be a Vol. That's all that matters.

I did it for you. I felt bad for you after one of your earlier posts.

p.s. Sorry you're from Michigan.
Thanks..was feeling like the kid in the corner wearing a dunce hat! :post-4-1090547912:

I was only 3 months old when we moved from Michigan and have lived in Tennessee my entire life so I have that going for me..:yess:

1 - Of course he backed off. He got the attention/clicks/retweets he desired.

2 - Of course MI is gonna look at him. Up and comer, won at his last stops, gets sell out crowds at a huge stadium when there's been no recent success, recruits at an elite level.

To summarize Rucker:

blah blah blah butch might go to MI.

clicks clicks clicks $$$$$$

He's not going, but they are interested.

My toaster could have figured that out.

*steps down from poor journalism soapbox*

Most everyone is born with some sort of flaw. Some have moles. Some have birthmarks. An extra toe maybe. Born in Michigan. Cross eyed.

Being appropriately ashamed, but still able to admit it is all we ask for. :good!:

Couldn't have done that better myself. Rucker, and others to be unnamed, are absolute jokes.

Hey BB, How did you get the "Common sense is overrated" instead of "senior member"

I didn't. Freak branded me. :cray:

I changed it in user CP. Can't remember where it is in there though. Look at all the options til you find the one you need.

Bottom line: I believe today what I believed 10 seconds ago, Face: you could be right on this. But no one should be naive. It's 2014.

Click here to see my predictions on 2014 and how we won't be naive anymore: ($$)
