My expectation for a coach getting 4 million/year has us in the playoff or on the verge.
He's probably going to get it though.
This is a slippery slope that Universities are entering. Coaches salaries are getting ridiculous. NFL teams have a few 7 million dollar coaches and revenue for the league is astronomically higher than that of college programs. One bad hire (in our case 2) can cripple a program for years due to buyouts.
Maybe it depends on perspective....
Do you decide pay based on results?
Do you decide pay based on the job/how hard you work at it?
Volatil you said you would place UT in the 10-20 range, closer to 20....I assume that's mainly based on the talent base in-state, which is on the upswing btw....
But wouldn't that go to prove how awesome of a job Butch is doing and how hard he is working? I doubt not many if any coach in the country works as hard and puts in as many hours as he does....
So what do you base your pay on?
We need results (Wins) to justify paying someone 4 million per IMO. I know he is working his butt off. Part of the reason I put us probably in the 12-15 range of programs is because we have to recruit nationally. Programs such as Florida can get in a car and visit 90% of their recruits.
If he were to win 9 games next year, pay the man. I'm just not a fan of paying a guy 4 million that is going to complete his second season with WAIT FOR IT......
THE SAME RECORD AS DOOLEY after his second year.
You and I agreed on buyouts as well. I say pay him whatever just give us the luxury to peace out with out a triple mortgage. Butch is putting recruits on the field and asses in seats 4 mill would be high but it's not out of hand.
Me either but I can't justify any of these coaching salaries being what they are. Let's face it much of what we invest in CFB is completely unjustified as a whole.
That's true. But CBJ keeps preaching to the fans about patience and the process, so he needs to practice what he preaches. UT has been more than fair, and he's well-compensated. Recruit well and win next year, and the big money will come. If he can't be patient and follow the process, then he'll lose credibility. A raise, yes; an extra mil, no. JMO.

Maybe 250 to 500 raise with a step for performance next year? Another 100 for 8 wins, 250 for 9, another 500 for 10 or more?
Seems more fair to all parties.
