Why did the cops ask Vol fan to sit down last night?

There is nothing wrong with standing and cheering at a football game, especially when a big play happens, or you are getting loud for defense or stretching your legs for a timeout...HOWEVER

- Anyone who stands the WHOLE game even during TV timeouts, when we have the ball, halftime, etc is kind of an idiot unless you are in the student section. There is no need for it and you are being rude to those around you.

- A KPD/KCSO officer can remove you for any reason, especially with the backing of the ushers. Neyland Stadium is private property and they can ask you to leave for almost any reason they see fit...If you refuse you can be arrested for criminal trespassing at that point. and if you are a season ticket holder (which these dolts obviously arent) UT can keep you from ever buying them again

Vapor being the key word here. It's not smoke.

Electronic Cigs are covered in UT's NO smoking policy...it's private property thus not allowed...

not that hard to figure out..

also those dumb things have as much cancer causing goodies as real cigs...but at least the drug addict feels good still:crazy:

I heard eating, sleeping, and pooping cause cancer, too.

That's fine with me you can sit just don't ask or tell me to sit just because you want to. GBO!

Serious question. Do you feel the same way if you are standing in front of a child or someone who is unable to stand. If a nice old lady asks you to sit down, will you truly take the same attitude / opinion you have shared in this thread with her.

I understand your perspective that it is your right to stand and I have no issues with that. However, the fan behind you has a right to see the game as well and I truly don't comprehend the sentiment of I don't care what anyone thinks, I'll do what I want to do because it is my right.

Another serious question - well maybe a little tongue in cheek - do you drive only in the left lane.

I call BS on that statement too. I started going to Vols games in the late 70's. The students stood because there was generally too much coke, jack, and puke on the seats. Didn't see too many others standing the entire game. Mostly up and down as the situation required. Pretty much the same as our section does now. I can honestly tell you that if your drunk ass stood the entire game in front of me, I wouldn't ask the cops to escort you out, I would have the supervisor of the ushers find someone that could refund the money for my ticket. You go to the game with an assumption of common courtesy, not having to sit behind an ******* just like the rules state on the back of the ticket. I will allow you to do what ever the hell you want. This problem is when I start insisting on my freaking $$ back, they will become concerned. I am willing to be the quick solution is that they will politely ask you to sit, and when you don't and appear the least bit intoxicated, you will be gone. It will all be on you since all I will have done is ask for a refund.

All the great traditions: vol walk, running through the T, vol navy, rocky top, salute the hill, and standing silently like a monk....oh wait one of those doesn't fit

More recent traditions selfcenteredness, obnoxiousnes, vulgarity, rudeness and entitlement. Life is good when it is all about you.

A cop can write you a ticket for disobeying his order. If he tells you to sit and you refuse, have fun showing up to court and paying that fine + court costs

1. People need to know their rights and just because an officer says it it is not true and not law. It is your responsibility to know the law for your well being and sitting down at a sporting event is not a law. A police officer has no right on private property telling you what to do when you are not breaking the law...public drunkness, acta of violence etc.....

2. As others have said you can actually be considerate and take in consideration who is behind you child elderly and maybe stand at opportune times.....always yell go vols

When the owner of that private property has asked them to function in their capacity of police officers they can do anything to you that can do on the street. All the tough guy wannabes in this thread are a hoot...... and ignorant.

I'm sorry, but this really cracks me up. How hard is it to just scroll past it and not click on it if you aren't interested?

But But it's our right to say it's time for this silly thread to be deleted! Right?

Hello. I was sitting in section K last night and a Vol fan about four rows in front of me was standing up and cheering for the Vols. The guy behind him politely asks him if he would sit down. He then says I am a VFL and cheering for my team. The fan then gets the cops to ask that man to sit down and he pleads his case to the cops saying he is cheering for his team. I had no problem with this man standing and cheering for the Vols. So why did the cops ask him to sit down? Didn't that man have the liberty of standing up and cheering for Tennessee? Thank you for your time.

You could see over him while sitting so it was no skin off your back. And no, nobody has the 'liberty' of doing whatever they want to.

Is this thread still going on.. Damn I read the first 3 pages when I first saw it and said it was the stupidest thread ever on here.. It's all bout Respect people.. Something that's missing these days..

Yet, just like a bad wreck on TV, you just had to look in again.

I certainly hope this doesn't happen at the Taxslayer Bowl like it did at the Missouri game. We were fighting amongst ourselves. I think we will get along better this time. I am anxious to see how the Iowa fans will behave. I hope they respect us inside the stadium.

Now this is standing up! LOL

I, too, am an usher in the Stadium! Everybody in the Stadium has a right to stand up the entire game, if they wish. However, everybody should not have to stand up just to watch the game. In some sections, like areas of the "Student Section", it really is nearly impossible to watch the game, unless one stands!

lol.....just now saw this. I was the one standing up...and F that guy. never saw him in K before. Cops and usher both agreed with me, usher even apologized...

Also that guy was none too polite... and it was a big defensive series.

Holt I'm still in K same spot, cya this season! And 3rd down on defense, I will be up every time as will those around me most of the time! We're cheering and trying to make noise for our Vols!

if you have a problem with people standing up on defensive stands especially, this stuff is televised, you can be sure no rowdy vol fans will stand up in front of you at home.

I've sat in J and K several times the last few years and don't think I've sat down
With my son a total of 2 minutes through a minimum 5 games in those sections.

You have to stand to see the game in those sections, if you don't want to, get different tickets. Would I rather sit during some of the game, yes, does it bother me so much to call a cop over, hell NO. If it bothered me that much, I'd get tickets to another section.

I sit down at least 20 minutes a game...halftime.

No seriously, when the game starts, I'm typically standing. And then I sit. And then I stand some more. And then I sit some more. And then I stand up very quickly after a prolonged episode of sitting, and I get dizzy, so I sit back down again. And then I stand, stand some more, and then I sit.

And then I stand some more.

But no matter what, when the goober down front is trying to "rally our section" to stand the entire time - "COME ON GUYS!! THE TEAM NEED US!!! BLAH BLAH BLAH!!! - I tend to chuckle a little and look down on them. Don't be that guy.
