No, Butch's cell phone didn't ring from anyone at Michigan. That's not how these things are done. There are many layers involved.

I'm surprised Butch hasn't been named in the Nebraska search as well. I don't think he goes anywhere, but this is the time coaches get raises. Ole Miss's coach just got a nice bump because of UF's search.

Don't think they could have called him during the season but bet his agent was contacted.

This would be the death of UT football. Only thing that would save it would be to bring in huge name. That being said, hope we don't have to worry about it.

For goodness sake, don't be so dramatic.

It would NOT be the death of UT football. At the same time, I hope that Jones does not leave AND that UT doesn't give an extension that would reward a guy for winning 11 games in two years. I am fine with a raise but the only way he should get an extension is if they rework UT's buyout of his contract should things go bad.

Hog wash. I don't thin CBJ goes anywhere. I understand that coaches today care about the money, but they also have to care about their careers. I truly believe Butch sees that there is a lot of potential here with the young men he has on this roster and the ones that will be arriving in just a few months. He would be crazy to walk into another dumpster fire in Michigan.

My point is it's pretty unlikely he grew up dreaming about UT. Take off the Orange tinted glasses and come back to reality. He will go wherever he can make the most money.

You think Kiffin grew up saying USC was his dream job? Seeing as how he was born in Nebraska and is a midwest guy till he went to college. I'm saying no.

For what little it might be worth... if Jones can talk about UT and K'ville the way he has then jump at the mess Michigan is right now... then he isn't the guy UT needs anyway.

UT DOES need someone with loyalty and a love for the Vols similar to what Fulmer had in his hey day. Most problems do not really require this to win... UT does. You have to have something extra to get all those kids from other states to come play for you.

Again possibly you save money on the contracts end, it likely isn't as big a savings as you're thinking but maybe you save some there. Even then you have the risk of the recruiting class blowing up (usually not as bad as some suspect but you still take a hit there), losing some fan support, and some donor support. A hire like Dooley for instance costs you more than just the contract amount. That's just not worth the risk for most major athletic departments and I'm betting Hart will agree. I'm not saying Butch has exceeded expectations on the field but as far as money the AD is bringing in currently he is worth more than just his on field record.

My thing is, he has a staircase contract if I recall correctly. It avg out to $3mil over the life of it but he gets yearly raises already. At the end of 6 yrs he's in the mid to high $3mil. I just don't see the need to add another raise on top of that at this juncture. Like it or not, the bottom line is wins and at this point he's right where Dooley was after 2 yrs and Dooley had some major injuries in his 2nd yr as well. After 3 yrs I expect to see improvement in the W-L column and if it's there, I'd fully support restructuring of his contract. A 6 yr contract is a solid committment to begin with and he's only 2 yrs in.

I don't see what the big deal is. If Butch runs off to Michigan then he obviously wasn't the man we thought he was..buh-bye. MUCH more likely, he signs his extension and his assistants get theirs, we go bowling and then reap another great signing class.

nothing on the internet that ties CBJ to the Michigan search. They have Harbaugh as top dog to be new coach. Sounds familiar. Next it will Gruden Soon.:lolabove:

Do the names Mike Hamilton and Derek Dooley ring a bell with you?

This is why you dont get attached to coaches anymore they have no loyalties to the schools they coach for, to them its a business and money is business

CBJ would change schools, if money/contract was right, as easily as he is going to change Adidas shoes to Nike. He can order oxford cloth shirts with any logo as long as he has an expense account.

coaches are entertainment mercenaries.

I don't see Jones leaving right now, however when it comes to loyalty and love for the school, UT threw that out the window forever when they stuck it to Fulmer.

Michigan will end up with a Butch type hire, they can forget about Harbaugh, Miles, Gruden, Kelly etc.

GTFO. It's because of loyalty that we didn't can him in 02 or 05. We waited until he ran it all the way into the ground instead of making the move when the decline started.

And here you have an example of why coaches have no loyalty toward a program. A couple of off years and the Nancy's of the world get the panties in a wad.

Oh he himself SAID it!! It must be true then!

Well If you say it's not true then it must be true..Guess we should believe a random poster over him..I apologize for doubting and not believing you..Please accept my apology, I won't sleep till you do..lmao..DA...

Harbaugh has so no also. Cowherd said a new name will show up by the wknd that Michigan fans will be very happy about. Said he has spoken to several agents and trusts his sources. Says the guy is still coaching so I'm guessing its a Coach with a game on Sat..

Fulmer with Cutcliff won 77% of the time.
Fulmer w/o Cutcliff won 61% of the time.

We all know which one got the 6 million exit money and has a lot of free time. The other guy went on to win Coach of the Year honors at a basketball school.
