No, Butch's cell phone didn't ring from anyone at Michigan. That's not how these things are done. There are many layers involved.
I'm surprised Butch hasn't been named in the Nebraska search as well. I don't think he goes anywhere, but this is the time coaches get raises. Ole Miss's coach just got a nice bump because of UF's search.
This would be the death of UT football. Only thing that would save it would be to bring in huge name. That being said, hope we don't have to worry about it.
My point is it's pretty unlikely he grew up dreaming about UT. Take off the Orange tinted glasses and come back to reality. He will go wherever he can make the most money.
Again possibly you save money on the contracts end, it likely isn't as big a savings as you're thinking but maybe you save some there. Even then you have the risk of the recruiting class blowing up (usually not as bad as some suspect but you still take a hit there), losing some fan support, and some donor support. A hire like Dooley for instance costs you more than just the contract amount. That's just not worth the risk for most major athletic departments and I'm betting Hart will agree. I'm not saying Butch has exceeded expectations on the field but as far as money the AD is bringing in currently he is worth more than just his on field record.
Do the names Mike Hamilton and Derek Dooley ring a bell with you?
This is why you dont get attached to coaches anymore they have no loyalties to the schools they coach for, to them its a business and money is business
For what little it might be worth... if Jones can talk about UT and K'ville the way he has then jump at the mess Michigan is right now... then he isn't the guy UT needs anyway.
UT DOES need someone with loyalty and a love for the Vols similar to what Fulmer had in his hey day. Most problems do not really require this to win... UT does. You have to have something extra to get all those kids from other states to come play for you.
I don't see Jones leaving right now, however when it comes to loyalty and love for the school, UT threw that out the window forever when they stuck it to Fulmer.
GTFO. It's because of loyalty that we didn't can him in 02 or 05. We waited until he ran it all the way into the ground instead of making the move when the decline started.
nothing on the internet that ties CBJ to the Michigan search. They have Harbaugh as top dog to be new coach. Sounds familiar. Next it will Gruden Soon.:lolabove:
And here you have an example of why coaches have no loyalty toward a program. A couple of off years and the Nancy's of the world get the panties in a wad.
