We were in west TN over the weekend visiting my wife's family for thanksgiving.

And for church Sunday morning, we went to where we used to attend when we lived in Memphis.

And I was greeted by one person like this: "hello volssam". Ha.

I asked how he knew who I was. He said his wife is on here a lot and figured out who I was.

Giving a coach a raise for going 6-6 is absurd to me, especially at a program like Tennessee. Yeah I'm happy with what the coaching staff is doing so far, and if we need to give some of the assistants raises I'm fine with that, but 6-6 is not worthy of a raise or extension in this conference, imo. It just isn't. It's a new world though, so what do I know.

Was it the gif strings that gave you away? lol

Hahaha. Don't think so. It's probably my occasional statements about how i used to live in Memphis and am now in middle tn, and/or my occasional posts about my faith/beliefs/etc, and/or perhaps the death of my sister in October. Just guessing though. He didn't tell me specifics.

So how will Barnett have a slump with even more help. Maggitt makes it impossible to double Barnett all game. Also Sutton was much better this year. Wasn't close he took a huge jump.

Add the second year playmakers to the line-up. And he may go ballistic.

My breakout guys for next season are as follows:

1. Jalen Hurd- if the line steps up and Kamara provides immediate help he'll go crazy. He's going to be stronger, faster, and will be seasoned.

2. Chris Weatherd- has elite athleticism and will know the system. His closing speed is ridiculous. Also gets great pop when he makes contact.

3. Todd Kelly Jr. - Kid will be a superstar at safety for us. Once he cleans up a few things the sky is the limit. His Football IQ is off the charts. Brings an edge to the backend at safety for us.

I've been impressed with McNeil's progress this season. Last year, he looked slow and consistently out of position. He didn't play to his strength, which I think is coming up and helping in the run game. He looks more aggressive, and it looks like he reads the game better. He's still slower than what's ideal back there in coverage, but it is what it is. I like the fact that he's attacking the ball carriers and hitting like a LB, which is what we all saw in his HS tape.

I would give him at least $3.3 because stoops makes $3.25 and he has done better and beat him. It sucks making less than somebody you outperform. I would wait until after the bowl. Maybe an increase and extension if we win a set amount of games next year. He will get a 200k bonus for going to a 1-6 bowl (bell, music city) and 100k for lower. That would buy a nice doghouse for the dog at Christmas.

Well, don't forget that Stoops getting a raise mid-season was ridiculous, and naturally ended up being unwarranted considering how they performed the rest of the year. Doing the same based on Stoops is just two wrongs in my opinion, which doesn't make a right.

Now if Butch wins the bowl game, which by all accounts should be against a pretty decent team, I have no problem bumping up his pay a bit.

McNeil did impress me some this year for sure.

Am I the only one who thinks he could make a good OLB ? Hits hard and has enough speed to close down. Just add some lbs to his frame .. TK needs to be the starting next year.. Too much upside with him.

Good problem to have but I agree in that I don't see anybody keeping TK off the field next year.

McNeil doesn't in the least bit look to have a LB body. He's playing better for sure but it's going to be hard to keep TKjr off the field in his second year.

LONG TIME FAN just not much for posting. Read the site daily (numerous times) just thought this was interesting to share and didn't think anyone else had done the research.

Professor is that you?
Welcome to VolNation!

The raise situation probably has more to do with foxes sniffing around the hen house than anything else. Marginal progress in the win/loss column and making a bowl make it feasible.

that 7.5 mill buyout is nuts. i have no idea what other people's buyouts are but i thought they were around 3-5 mill.

i would think a coach wouldnt contract that unless he was getting something big in return for it, like extension and raise, and was very happy where he was.

Money maker for CSU :)
Bet their AD is excited haha

Yes. He hurts us in pass coverage, especially this year when Coleman was the nickel. Would love to see McNeil has a hybrid LB/S.

He's great when he's not manned up on the slot guy. He came a long way this year for sure.

It's a new world because you also have to look at your competition and how he compares. Butch is basically at the bottom of the SEC, and this year his record was not at the bottom.

I don't want to get into the Cuonzo Martin debate again, but Martin was actually exceeding expectations compared to the SEC coaching salaries. Martin was at the bottom. He got his feelings hurt and left (and no, I am not a Martin apologist). But these coaches pay attention, and you have to keep up or they will leave when they can. It's a two way street.

Also, more goes into it than a 6-6 season. It may not to us fans, but the administration considers other things. How is the culture? How are the students' academic records? How is recruiting? Are former players coming back? How is fundraising? I would venture to guess that all of those are positive under Butch Jones.

Las Vegas doesn't know everything.

But if it did, Jim Harbaugh would be the next Michigan football coach.

The current San Francisco 49ers head coach has the best odds to replace Brady Hoke, according to online sportsbook Bovada, at +200.

LSU coach Les Miles is right behind Harbaugh at +250, followed by Tennessee coach Butch Jones (+350), Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy (+350) and former Rutgers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano (+450).

From the Detroit Free Press

Obviously it looks like we are safe according to everything from the last two days, but here are the latest odds from Vegas for anyone interested.
