Michigan Contacted CBJ per FootballScoop (merged)

What odds would you have put on Kiffin leaving? 2%?

Like it or not, Kiffin was a far more attractive candidate at the time - NFL HC experience, top college program coordinator experience, package deal with a legendary DC and a top notch recruiter, improved UT by 2 wins in his first year, and signed the top recruit in the nation...by comparison, all of Butch Jones' successes are still from the mid-major level after taking over from Brian Kelly. He doesn't really have any achievements to point to in the past 2 years, save his 2014 recruiting class.

10-20% the year he left and rapidly escalating each year after that. Kiffin was never going to stay here. He cared nothing about our tradition. He just needed a job

That's revisionist history. He was USC's 7th choice and not even on the radar as a possibility to UT fans that he would bolt when it happened. I would say CBJ might be 2nd or 3rd on UM's realistic candidate list (the Harbaughs and Miles don't count), so it's not insane.

If South Carolina hadn't been such an abomination defensively we'd be home for Christmas again.

While this is true playing the "if" game really doesn't mean anything. A modest example: "If Tennessee's offensive line was not such an abomination we would have 2 more wins."

It will depend on who the AD is.

This I say replace hart with a tn connection n then coach g may be in play. Lol

Gary Patterson... Rich rod since we r recruiting spread guys..

What about ed orgeron.spelling.. Since we love recruiting coaches... Oh wait.

Or give Lame another chance:crazy:

Bottom Line is CBJ is the absolute best football coach UT could have at this present time. He sells out games with a sub .500 football team and brings in the recruits. If it takes an extension and raise to keep him, then we better bring the $$$. If he were to leave, UT would be irrelevant for a decade+.

Absolutely right on the mark!:good!:

You don't think Butch is that stupid do you. He'd have to be out of his freaking mind to go to Michigan. That place will be where coaches go to die. It's already started. :birgits_giggle:

GO VOLS!

I don't think there was any list, but Kiffin may have been the 7th guy USC legitimately tried to get.

But, Butch is not on any list for Michigan and they have not nor will try to get him, no matter how many turn them down. It would be career suicide for the AD to hire a guy with a .500 or worse record at the major program level and pay him more than the 3 million per year we are paying him. Especially after firing an alum for finishing with a similar record this year. How would that press conference go? "Well, Butch tell us about your offensive philosophies that just resulted in the 103rd ranked offense in the nation..." What would they talk about? His record at Central Michigan? His one good recruiting class here?

There are plenty of mid major HCs out there right now (and even high level assistants) who would be easier sells to a major program fanbase than Butch Jones, at this point.

I bet UT going to a bowl pissed off Oregon_ _ _ . He probably had some venom he had prepared that he can't post now with any validity. You might be able to spew some in the lady vol basketball thread if you must.
