UF should've just kept Muschamp for another year just so they wouldn't have to pay that buyout. Would've been a whole cheaper to do it that way. They could've suffered another year just to save a little dough.

No, IMO.

Recruiting would suffer even worse with a "dead man walking" coach.

Loss of ticket revenue, as fans stop coming

Boosters withdraw money in protest

Band wagon fans flock to other programs. Revenue lost from apparel, tickets, and branding image

There is always a lot more to it

Decent option IMO. Paying 7.5 million for his buyout, plus paying 6 million for Muschump's buyout is nuts. He's recruited in the SEC so that's a plus. Turned a program around so that's good. Still 13.5 million before you even talk salary seems like a lot for a chance to hire a guy like this.

In comparison UT paid Dooley 5 million to walk and Jones buyout of 1 million to hire him. Is this cat worth twice as much? IMO his resume would say no. Take away the 13.5 million and IMO he looks to be a decent coach.

Are you saying McElwain's buyout is 7.5 mil? How in the world did Colorado State get a deal with him with that large of a buyout?

... And just to drive it home a bit more, ask yourself, "one more year of Dooley?" :)

I may regret this later but this hire does not scare me. I find it hard to believe they will go this route.

Bring the offensive guy on Sabans staff is much more impressive than the DC. Like Charlie strong was with urban Meyer, he's pretty much the head coach of his side.

Still, would rather have him than Mora or Rich Rod

IMO they were protecting themselves as they knew at some point bigger name school may come calling and did not want to be his stepping stone job.

I can't believe he agreed to that! That's astronomical...approaching Petrino's 10 mil buyout, but his is certainly justified. And just to give them a FYI...Colorado St is a stepping stone job...do they think they will win the NC?

I agree it really does not make sense. Maybe his agent was in his 1st year on the job? :)

Dooley got 5 million. Muschump gets 6 million. 7.5 does seem high for a CSU gig.

You would have to admit though the AD at CSU gets a job well done IF it plays out. His football program is on an upswing, he can hire a good coach as they are winning, and the 1.5 million or so they would pay him is being paid by UF for the next 5 years. :eek:lol:

OMG. Y'all we better hope doesn't Florida hire this guy as their head football coach. I mean, he coached JPW, Greg McElroy and AJ McCarron everything they know about hair, tattoos and handing off and carrying out the play fake. Can you imagine this smooth dude in the living rooms? We're screwed.

But does he have Butch Jones-type swag?!

Red zone defense was last in the country. Not the league, the country. Need to clean that up. Defense looked great otherwise. Tied for 8th in the country in red zone trips allowed.

Vandy and UK apparently had much better OL players than we did lol.

That's kinda what I was thinking.

That's nuts, brilliantly done by the CSU AD. Their coaching budget is set for a long time if he bails.

Agree on all points. This makes no sense on the financials. They'll be married to his ass for a looong time.

It feels really, really good to not see a "Countdown until it's football time in Tennessee" thread in the FF.

Can't complain about an off-season that's 30 days shorter than the last 3.

Who cares if they wrapped him up that tight and can make bankroll in losing him then kudos to them.

Yes we do. I think getting some DT's who are more than 300 pounds will aid us some there.

The way I look at it is if I am considering paying a 7.5 million dollar buyout for this guy, is there not a much bigger name I could hire with a lower/zero buyout? I'd imagine this guy would require at least 3 million and possibly even 3.5 to take the job. If I could hire a proven guy with a lower buyout I may be able to offer up 5-5.5 million a year to the right guy and not be out much more money over the long term. JMO
I think they are there too but can't pull one. Butch is looking like a steal. I do expect Butch to start leveraging for a pay hike after the new rounds of coaching contracts bump up.

Alex Smith and the KC offensive coaching staff is s&#tting on a night where thy are honoring EB. Trying to prove they arent dependent on Jamaal Charles. All they are doing is proving that they are.

Note: I also have Jamaal Charles on my fantasy team. No bias though

It is fun watching another school going through the coaching search.

Not as easy as you think - especially after you ax your last one.

Auburn however may get richer. That is the best staff in america.
