'15 MD OT Pat Allen

Let's get past candy, go bowling and see what happens with Mister Allen's recruitment. We could follow recruitment of said player in this thread; that is named for him. What a concept. Let's just win in Nashville and have a better season than the last few have been. Winning will cause more elite level players to consider the Vols, ie Kyle Phillips for example. Winning will help recruiting, and winning always makes a coach look much better, so maybe these problems work themselves out.

Our O-line will never look as physical as Arkansas in our zone blocking scheme. It can be just as effective however.

I wonder if UGA's loss today will help our cause with Allen. Dawg land is not a very happy bunch right now. There seems to be more positive momentum around the Vol program than most others out there.

How hard is it for a good team other than terrible OL to get some good OL recruits with early playing time ???????? Ridiculous

We made a bad decision by going all out on Richmond. Had we went after guys like Allen from the get go, with the intent of letting them sign, we'd probably have 2-3 "true" OT prospects right now. Now, other then Jones, whom many consider a G as well, we really don't have any OTs this class. Hall is all of 6'4". He's not playing LT most likely, maybe RT? Same goes for Stewart, etc. We need some length at LT in the worst of ways.

Definitely agree. Hopefully we can get someone to reconsider...our OT situation is way scary and we are in dire need.

I agree with this. Sam should have been kept if at all possible. Guy can coach OL and I think he would have been a quality coach to keep on staff.

Agreed.

Not sure how CBJ could choose CDM over a proven guy like CSP.

All the 2013 OL went in to coach jones office and begged him to keep pitman but jones stuck with CDM for what ever reason. Maybe it has to do with him coaching e fisher?

Did not know you were on the coaching staff. Do your staff colleagues share your views?

I can't imagine he watched us sneak by the worst power 5 team and said "Ya, that looks much better than losing to a top 25 team in OT."

He only coached Fisher for his freshman (redshirt I think) year. If that's his best resume headline... Well I think it is.

Yea in hindsight it's pretty difficult to rationalize not keeping Pittman. His OLs would run through a brick wall for him.

I'm not calling for Mahoney's head, nor am I blaming Butch for bringing his guys here, but as a head coach, it's your job to make an accurate, unbiased assessment of your coaching staff. Mahoney has never coached at a power 5 school before. He has zero NFL coaching experience. He hasn't coached any higher level of competition beyond Cincy. Pittman was a more proven OL coach, and our players really liked him. Pittman and Jay were the two coaches that deserved spots on this staff. Jay left, and we made a solid replacement. Can the same be said for Mahoney at this point? Probably not. His recruiting of OTs has to get better. We need some bigger guys to compete in our LT/RT spots.
