Wonder if it was the same caller that said Gruden was a "done deal"?

For whatever reason, our staff has definitely not spent as much time on Richmond since the Alabama weekend as we were doing before and Richmond has stopped talking up Tenn publicly. I think there is probably something to it.

Newsome said he tried to recruit him. I don't recall what was said.

This pisses me off so damn bad. A "supposed" friend of Ryan Newsome called into a radio show and said Richmond was recruiting players for Ole Miss during a UT visit. As far as I'm aware, Ryan Newsome never said that nor confirmed it. IF anyone has an actual quote where Newsome stated this I would love to see it. I apologize but this is how news gets twisted and attributed to the wrong source.

FWIW it seems the staff has cooled on Richmond so that maybe entirely true BUT I think it's important to attribute the information to the proper source and it never was quoted as being directly from the mouth of Ryan Newsome. I could call in and claim to be a friend of a player on an anonymous radio call in.

Maybe but not publicly talking about it doesn't mean it's not happening privately. You have to remember he has tons of pressure from Ole Miss folks and they probably got scared and turned up the heat so he could be quiet for that reason too

IMO it depends on how he looks when he gets on campus. In his current system he doesn't have to do much pass blocking at all. My guess is they start him out at tackle and see if he's got the feet and hands to play tackle. If he's a little slow-footed, they'll move him to guard.

Personally I think he's get the athleticism to thrive at tackle. The way he gets out in front of WR screens is impressive.

His evaluation on 247 (not sure what its worth) indicates he has pretty good athleticism and quick feet. Hands were a little about average. I think a 6 out of 10.

Half the people that hate Memphis have never been there or lived and breathed Memphis. One of the better cities I've ever seen and I've seen quite a bit in the US.
I have and I hate Memphis with a passion. The only good thing about Memphis is seeing it in your rear view mirror.

Have you lived in Memphis? I did...8 years. Met my wife there....both my children were born there.....and I nearly had all 3 of them abducted during what looked to be some type of gang initiation right in front of me. That was the most egregious thing I experienced among several others and was eventually the final straw and impetus that led us to move to the Nashville area.

Anyone who's lived in Memphis likely understands that crime in the form of murder, rape, assault and theft is more the rule for Memphis rather than the exception. So, unless you've lived there and experienced "all that Memphis has to offer", perhaps you shouldn't give your uneducated opinion on whether or not people are hating on the city without ever having been, lived or breathed there.

I'd rank it around 2 or 3 stars on a 5 star scale myself. Still though, there are millionaires who are willing to live in 3 star cities.

I've lived in Memphis for all but the 4 years I attended UTK. It is a wonderful city with some (big) flaws, but "murder, rape, assault and theft is more the rule" is far from true. Yes, some of those things happen (as they do in any large metropolitan area with areas of poverty) at a higher rate than other areas, but it certainly isn't the norm. Memphis has many great qualities that set it apart from trendy cities like Nashville; it also has its negatives. I for one love this city, and, even if I move away, I will always call it home.

I was born in Memphis, lived there until I was 8

I was Born in Memphis, lived there until I was 8 then moved to Colorado. I visited the city a few times every year and I now live there for at least 3 months out of the year. I know the city well and it's one of the greatest cities I've ever been too. I also spend a lot of time in Denver and Memphis blows that place away.

I have lived and breathed this city and driving through west Memphis and seeing the pyramid and bridge is only second to a Game at Neyland. I love those hot summer nights Memphis has to offer. There is not a place is rather be then Memphis in the Summer time.

Nice try though

The Memphis debate will always exist on VN from those that live in the Utopia known as Nashville or Knoxville, which if it didn't have UTK or the smokies, would be a boring place to live.

Callahan has an article up on 247 about Drew and his official visits.

Summary is same ole stuff he always says except he clearly reads message boards because he said that Some fans started a crazy rumor that he was recruiting people to Ole Miss on his TN visit and he said that was absolutely false. He loves Butch and TN and wouldn't do that. He also said he has been quiet recently basically because he caught some grief for getting too hype about TN publicly and rocking gear at games.

Imo his words in every article scream I want to go to TN but there is so much pressure to go to Ole miss

I'm certain a lot of recruits read these type threads. They love reading what folks have to say about them.

If you have read his posts, he has lived there and has siblings still in high school there. I can't disagree with him that a lot of the criticisms come from people who have never lived there. There is an East TN bias, and I know this because I went to school at UT and heard it.

I will say this again. The suburban living is about as good as it gets. The schools are top in the state, and the crime is minimal. As I said before, you don't have to be wealthy either as the standard of living is cheap compared to the west, NE, and Florida. I am sorry for your experience, but I have lived here since 1984 (except at UT) and not had anything serious happen to me. I actually am a criminal defense attorney and see it all. But it is no different than any other big city, and you just have to know where to stay away from. Sorry but people just exaggerate the negatives.

It's not him reading message boards... It's fans who read message boards, who unfortunately have twitter accounts and tweet them stuff like:

"hey @drew I heard yew been recruiting kids on your UT visit to go to Ole Miss. Hope it ain't true. Hope you become a vol. #GBO"

I can almost guarantee that is how he heard about that rumor.

Liked for the hilarious accuracy. God love our fanbase but a large portion of them should not be allowed near twitter.

Uh...what?

You're doubting it? Happened on Snowden Ave .....wife and young kids were walking back from church playground one street over when I happened to drive up at the intersection they were at while coming home from work...large sedan was there, backdoot opened, 2 young men already locked eyes on my wife who was carrying my year old son while my 3 year old daughter walked next to her .... when I drove up, they slammed the door shut and sped off. My wife was scared to death.

This came on the heels of a guy who had recently been arrested after robbing 7 different people in their driveways at night including shooting one woman in the back in an adjacent neighborhood over a 3 week period, and a Memphis St young coed being abducted at a midtown grocery store while taking a break studying for finals....they found her dead, raped body in a field the next afternoon. I'd have already mentioned the purse snatching incident we witnessed at the new Target (at the time) out by Wolfchase Mall or my car being broken into 3 times but they didn't seem quite as big a deal by comparison.

Anywho, Memphis is ranked one of the top 5 most dangerous cities in America annually. I'm sure many people have lived there many years and maybe haven't experienced Memphis crime. But I know a ton of people who have and chose to do just what we did and that's get the hell out.
