I can't see how a pro-style QB wouldn;t appreciate having well-schooled recievers.

Somebody made Health Shuler look good enough to the third pick in the draft. Who had the recievers during his senior session..... you know it!:dance2:

Carl Pickens made it clear he was going to Clemson, but Kippy convinced him to come here. Obviously he can recruit.

Kippy was a good recruiter and it seems that there was some pension vesting issue in 2005 that he needed another couple of NFL seasons. He is also a good guy.

I don't know. We would likely only take 1 more WR and that would have to be a pretty good specimen. We've got some pretty good young talent for him to work with and some experienced guys to lead the way.

Then, wouldn't the combination of our existing young talent combined with KB's coaching be enough to influence positively a pro-style QB or a 'dual' / anyone who plans to throw it?

Possibly, but we already have Crompton/Stephens/Coleman. There are only a couple QBs on our board right now. Cobb from Alcoa and Kelly from Florida but he may go pro in baseball. We may jump in on another big timer, but it may be too late.

We basically already have the talent we need to compete for championships next season, borrowing some total revision of the offense, right?

So KB's impact would be to focus mainly on developing the guys we have. His biggest impact on recruiting could be the following year then.

Is that close to what you are saying or am I overusing my 'orange-colored glasses', HV?

On offense, maybe. There are definitely holes in the defense that will make things tough for the Vols next season.

So, on D, most of the complaints here are about the DL, right?

We have at least one guy, Ben Martin, from last year's class who should help there, but is next year too soon? Is that just not going to be enough? Or, is it other positions that worry you?

Hopefully Langley and Brimfield make an impact on the DL.

I'd still be concerned about the defensive backs. Eric Berry still needs to develop coverage-wise. The rest of the guys...

One positive is that Brent Vinson might be a lot better next year if his shoulder heals up. I suspect that was part of the reason he wasn't so good at tackling.

Yeah, the pieces should be there again next year. DT is the main question and we need players to step up in most areas, but the potential is still there.

Was a good recruiter, but he didn't enjoy it one bit. Was happy to be through with it.

I don't know about y'all, but I'm not fired up about a guy that doesn't like recruiting.

Not around for the KB years cause I was barely born, but I have watched plenty of old games. If he can bring in some carl pickens and alvin harper type players then I will all for it. Just would love 2 c the separation we used to have at wide out back again. Maybe a gerald jones could turn into a great one under kippy.

I have to ask the question but I know I'm going to flamed for it but here we go....what about a serious look at Norm Chow? I just can't get over what he did at USC and I know they had all the top recruits but, If he is announced as OC, would that increase our ability to bring in the recruits just due to his ability to coach and run an offense?
K, now where did I put my fire suit at......

This makes sense. When is the last time this guy hit the recruiting trail? early-1990s? Are the contacts still there hv?

I wouldn't think that a whole lot of them are and the ones that are will probably be pretty useless. That being said, he has a great resume that he can flash at recruits. I'm sure he could build contacts if he needs to.

Norm Chow is already a NFL OC. he would only leave for a HC position. i heard that he had been interested in the UCLA position, but dont know what became. i also believe that he only wants to coach in California.

I think Norm was invited to interview at UCLA but I am not sure if he did so yet. For some strange reason the Nashville media is really trying to keep legs under this story playing up the possibility of Chow vs. Carroll. I guess somebody wants to go to LA and escape a little of Old Man Winter.

other than Jeff Fisher, Im not sure there are alot of poeple in Nashville thrilled with Norm Chow.

Chow wants to be a HC, not an OC.

Why would he move from OC in the NFL to OC in CFB? Thats a step backwards.
